I'm kinda confused by the results too. Here's the story. A friend and I were leaving base when this green (not forest, but a custom job) 4th gen with 18" or 19" chrome wheels and some sort of aftermarket muffler pulls up alongside at one of the base stoplights. He gives me a little nod after taking a long look at my car, and when the light turned green, I could hear him feathering the clutch (constant rpms but accelarating). Well, no one in their right mind races on base, but he got in front of me into the turn lane that goes onto about a half mile stretch of 3-lane road before it exits onto the interstate. My friend and I were commenting on the paint job and rims, and we were pretty sure the guy was gonna punch it after the turn. So I figured what the hell, and put the lever in 1st so I could be somewhat ready. Sure enough, right after the turn, he floored it and moved over a lane, and I followed suit, but stayed in the far left lane. To my suprise though, he wasn't pulling and when I shifted into second I gained maybe a foot or two, and towards the top of 2nd, I was noticably gaining on him. He started out 2 carlengths ahead, but by 90 or so he was only about one. At that point I slowed back down since our turn was coming up and there were a couple cars not too far ahead, and he kept going a little further.

I really don't know how the hell I kept up with him, let alone gained a little, especially since I had my friend in the car with me. I don't know if the chrome wheels slowed him down that much or if he had a stereo that was weighing the car down, but I was catching him, and without the nitrous (bottle wasn't open). I even remarked to my friend while we were waiting behind him at the light that the guy could and would probably walk me. So, I'm open now to anyone's theory on how I didn't get my *** kicked. I'm pretty damn sure he was racing because I could hear the exhaust pretty good, plus I don't think he would be just screwing with me at those speeds. Any ideas?
