Sorry to say this but forget about Nissan helping you out with the rotors. Had problems with my AE since brand new. Was under the impression that since I had a brand new car Nissan would take care of it. Found out the hard way that rotors are not covered under warranty and dealers will usually machine then for free within the first year only.

I'm with you in your frustration.

Consider stillen:

FYI... I just ordered these from the GR Racing

(eatricezone.com site) and the rotors were $199/pr. That's not to much more than what the stock ones run. I think stock is around $160/pr. $39 is worth it if it means they'll not warp as easily. I've warped mine twice in 43k miles !

how do you know if your rotors are warped?

does it make a sound?

is it visible when inspecting them?

It's pretty simple....

If your front end shakes/steering whell vibrates when applying the brakes on the highway then your rotors are probably warperd.

What about the rotor TSB?

I know it says 2000, but I think others in here have gotten the TSB done on 2K1's but I could be mistaken..

Avalon Racing

I'm also done with Nissan OEM Rotors. Just ordered new Stillen Rotors, Pads, and Brake Lines from Avalon Racing. Their prices are cheaper than getting directly from Stillen.

They have a web-site (www.avalonracing.net), but I ended up ordering over the phone. Contact is:

I have a 2001 SE and had warped rotors at 12,000 and again at 20,000 miles. My dealer machined the rotors at 12,000 and are now replacing the rotors at 20,000. All under warranty and with no hassles.

If the dealer tells you that the brake mechanicals are not covered under warrant, he is bluntly lying to you and you need to elevate the situation to Nissan.

Double-check with the dealer first, though, and make sure you two are talking about the same thing. Often, when someone says "brakes" they are actually talking about the pads. Pads, and other consumables (like wipers and filters) are not covered. That's pretty standard. The mechanical parts...rotors, calipers, etc, are covered.

Where can I read this? In my manual...? I want black and white to go back my dealer with when he states that they "did me a favor" by turning down the rotors. And then I am going to back hand him in the head!

coverage of the brakes is only 12K, but due to our problems Nissan extended coverage for warpage to 36K.. its a service bulletin. "Brake Judder TSB". should be in the stickies..

I read and it states for 2000 model. Does that mean 2000+? I had it in hand when he said he did it, so I did not present the TSB. Do you think I am going to end up arguing semantics over the 2000?

I got it done on my 2k1 GXE. But my service writer didn't note the tech bulletin was for 2000's, I think. Others may not have so compliant a service writer.

Probably... but do so anyway. Be very insistent, but polite. The 2000 bulletin established a precedent, just cause it's a 2k1 doesn't mean it shouldn't be repaired under warranty.
