Upgrade and Impressions 205/65/15 to 235/45/17
I've just installed new Konig Tantrums 17 x 8 with Kuhmo 235/45/17 tires on my 2K1 GXE. Here are my impressions after the install and with only limited driven miles. Please comment if you have experienced the same.
- On uneven roads, the steering wheel is more susceptible to movement (not a shake as in out of balance).
- Butt dyno impression is the car is a bit slower on acceleration and tad longer on stopping distance. The original steel/tire combo. was 40# and the new setup is 46#. Of course the weight distribution and moment of inertia is worse off on the wider wheels.
- Car is more resistant to initial turn-in, and turning radius has increased.
- With tires inflated to 32#s, ride comfort has only slightly decreased.
- Cornering greatly improved. Tracking more precise.
Also, the hub face and rotor edges have rust (car only has 8K miles and I live in CA.). Any paint/clean suggestions here greatly appreciated. Please don't tell me to get new rotors.
