Anyone ever see holes in your K&N Panel filter?

I took my K&N panel filter out the on Sunday and cleaned it carefully and re-oiled it. I held it up to the sunlight, and there were hundreds of pinholes in it, through which I could see daylight. I put my paper filter back in, so I don't get dust in the engine. I was able to get most of the holes covered up with more filter oil, but I had to oil it so much that it was dripping off the filter.

Due to this, I ordered a Frankencar intake yesterday, I am hoping that the Monster Flow will filter better and flow just as well.

Yes, I did notice this, even on my new K&N filter. Maybe the oil will trap any dust trying to get through there?... I'm not worried though, cause K&Ns have a great reputation. My friend has 180,000 miles on his 95Max & was running the Stillen intake since 50K. No problems at all, and no issues with overoiling & other crap that you read about here. But, people are buying the Blitz metal screen filters for around $100 and those provide close to ZERO filtration. I've read some horror stories on other boards (non-maxima). If you look inside your filterbox & there is no dust residue, then you shouldn't worry about it.

I don't see pinholes but my cotton element started disintegrating at 25K miles. Perhaps wet air from the CAI. I've lost about 20% of the paper. Replacing with the monsterflow to try that. Of course K&N will be replacing under warranty...

I saw this behavior on my old Honda K&N panel filter. I believe this is what caused the engine to start burning oil. I will never by a K&N filter again and I am exceptionally wary of any non-paper element. By the way, the 2K2 OEM Nissan Paper filters looks oiled as well.

I had the same issue on an Accord. It started to burn oil shortly after going with a K&N panel filter. But it seems that no one has experienced this on a Max...stronger, more dirt resistant internals maybe (molybdenum coatings used throughout, ect)?
