Re: 2k2 nav question
i went to a stereo shop today and he said that he might be able to .route the wires and use the nav as a dvd player. but only if there are audio video inputs. but i doubt nissans nav would have these inputs.
I will attempt this soon. My DVD player has arrived. Here's what I "think" the unit is laid out as:
I believe it is a HardDrive based unit. So when you enter the settings, they are saved on the drive & will be available even after reset. Not sure, though.
If this is true, then maybe it is a type of microPC. Which means, maybe we can tap into the Video input... but will this input be RGB, or RCA-type?... The Acura guys have done this on ACURA-TL.COM
I have to read-up on their thread, before I attempt.
Of course I'll let you folks know what's up.

Hey guys... here's the ACURA TL thread:
It looks like it IS in fact an RGB signal... and they used a RGB-to-RCA converter...
Kloogy... let's get cracking on this, bro!

i went to get my tints put in today at another place and he said that it would be 1800 dollars installed with a dvd player and there would be a button to switch between the nav and the dvd player. i was thinking that i could buy a dvd player on etronics.com for 175 bucks and get someone to by-pass the video in the nav i was goin to spend no more than 350 but 1800 damm to expensive. If anyone know another way im open to suggestions.
I was able to peek inside the LCD module... nothing to see there guys/gals. There is no way to tap into the signal, cause the signal travels on flatcable, not wires. There are some type of monitor settings: Vert. Horiz. etc... (maybe) But I wouldn't touch these if your car is still under warranty.
I didn't make my way into the console to access the main Nav unit, cause it looks like a huge pain! Not worth it to me unless someone does it first & actually gets video piped in. I've already ordered LCDs for headrests & visors... but I guess it would be pretty damn cool to be able to have 5-monitors playing my favorite DVD.
If someone does manage to pull apart the main unit, take some pix and we'll figure out how to hack it. CAREFUL NOT TO FRY! Lexus owners have fried theirs! Make a note of all the wire colors, taps & text, such as VID1, RGB-2, etc... also, check to see if there is a harddrive in there. Imagine if it is harddrive-based, & you throw in a 10GB drive & store all 50 states on that bad boy... but probably just wishful thinking.
BTW: The Acura guys were able to easily tap into the VIDEO signal, cause their DVD player is in the trunk & there are cables leading to the LCD... we have everything built into one unit, which makes it tough to figure out without schematics.
Anyway, I know you want pix (for some reason can't just post them so here are the links)

I have read somewere that the 03 max and I35 will have DVD nav systems. The reason I think that might happen is because of the G35 having a DVD system and all the competitors have DVD systems.
