Spotted a G35

I just drove past a G35 on the way home from work. Some old lady was driving it in the slow lane while talking on a cell phone. She does not deserve that car. It looked a little smaller than I expected from the pictures I have seen, and I can't say I like the rear end. Can't wait for that car with a six-speed

There's one in our parking garage. Belongs to somebody in my company but I don't think it's anybody I know.

I'm going to go drive one to see how good it feels, and if I like it I'm putting a deposit on a G35 Coupe.

UM .... NO!

It shares a platform with the 350Z, G35 Coupe and the new Skyline, AND it is RWD. There are a BUNCH of them in Houston. I got blown out by one on Beltway 8 last week.

No, I didn't test drive one, but I sat in one when I was contemplating getting an I35...glad I came to my senses and bought the Maxima instead.
Anyway, a dark blue one had just arrived at the Infiniti Dealership and I looked it over carefully, sat in it, etc., but I didn't drive it...I then turned to the gen manager and said "sure looks a beefed up Altima to me" and he just nodded his head and winked.
When MSN Carpoint posts the dimensions (passenger volume, height, weight, etc.) I'll bet they will match up pretty well with the Altima.

Just like the I35... a great car...but it's a beefed up Maxima. You end up paying a bit extra for the 4 yr vice the 3 yr warranty and the "Infiniti Dealership" experience (i.e. they give you a loaner for your warranty period).

Think, think think. The guy is a salesman. If you were looking at $37k I35, why would he turn around and try to sell you on a less expensive car that has more demand now than the I35? If you are a posiibly buying customer, who on earth is not going to agree with you and lose a potential customer? I dropped by my local Infiniti dealership a month ago. I asked if the I35 was going to, or not be replaced by a new model. The salesman responded that it would roughly take three years to replace them. The M45 will replace it Nov. 2002.

Plus the Altima and G35 might look similiar in some angles but they are a different breed of cat. The Max(GLE,loaded SE) and the I35 are basically the same car.

I got stuck behind a G35 on my way to work this morning. Some guy drivin slow in the fast lane of 78. What a tool. The car looks great...except for the back. Dont really like the taillights, but I would love to get my hands on a G35 coupe...talk about sweet.

Just one more thing. Sizewise, the Max is larger than a five series. The three series is just a tad too small for me. The G35 Coupe with RWD and 18' wheels should be just fine for me. 275hp, not bad at all.

rubman, you may want to check out the HP on the G35...I thought it was 260HP (5 more than the Maxima '02). I'll re-check it on Edmunds.

Sport Coupe

The Sport Coupe has a dual exaust, tuned intake, has more time to work the engine....

Nissan says 280+ HP, i think knowing Nissan's reputation 275 is a fair guess

Whoops that is 275+ from nissan

Mark,

The coupe should be ~275hp. Also, the G35 has 260hp/260ft-lbs of torque. Its got a 5sp auto and rwd. 0-60 low 6 seconds. Its fast. Period.

AND the Altima and G35 are only related in the fact that they are Nissans at heart, but are TOTALLY different cars with different platforms. But nice try.

Mike, you're right...I did find an article saying that they are planning to put 275HP into the G35 Coupe (with a 5 speed). Of course, "fast" is a relative term...I consider my "weekend car" to be "fast."
I still think it looks like a "fancy" Altima (in actuality it is a bit smaller in dimensions when compared to the Altima). But to each his own.

Nice link! Boy that coupe looks sweet. The only color that I like the G35 sedan in is Red.

LOL! That's kinda ironic given both coupe and sedan has the same taillights

Anyhow, click here for more photo's of the Coupe.

I just saw another one this morning, this time in blue. I have a feeling this is going to be a regular occurance. I think I am going to have to pay a visit to the infiniti dealer for a test drive...

remykins,be advised that going to the Infiniti Dealership is not like going to a Nissan Dealership. I know, I tried to bargain on an I35, and they did very little to make the price come down. It's like going to a restaurant where there are no prices listed in the menu...if you have to ask, then you can't afford it.
Trust me, with the new G35...there won't be any discounts. In a year or two maybe, but right now they will "hold the line." Besides, whenever they introduce a new model, there will be some "bugs" and they will have to work them out.

As for no discount, I disagree.
I got it off the boat 3/11/02 in the morning (probably first one in Cali) as it did come off the boat 3/11/02. I still manage to haggle $500 off MSRP. Only had leather/sunroof/bose combination. I knew I could have waited 1 more month to save extra $1000 but couldn't hold on. (My car broke and now my wife's car - Accord was the only vehicle in family 2 week prior to this)
Most of dealers will deal with you. I even saw a lease of $369 for one with my option with $3000 drive off in a Korean newspaper. (Of course it is one of those ridiculous 60 months lease 12000 mile per year)
Check our carsdirect.com for it. I've seen it going $1600 off MSRP on certain options.

Actually, they're not. The taillights on the Coupe are much sleeker than on the sedan. Not the same at all, other than the general shape.
