Rear Bumper TSB

Hey everyone,
I just had my problem with my rear bumper fixed on my 2000 SE. I brought a copy of the TSB to dealer to show them and the guy said that all that wasn't necessary (removing the tail lights, installing new clips, etc.) So, all they did was loosen the bolts that attach the trunk to the car, and moved the trunk lid back a little bit to give clearance between the trunk lid and bumper. Now, when I look at it, the trunk lid doesn't completely line up with the rear end. I'm thinking that the guys at the dealer didn't want to bother with having to order the new clips and putting all the labor into it, so they fixed it another way instead. What do you guys think? Did they do the same thing to fix yours? Should I got to another dealer and ask them to fix it the right way? They also charged me 22.50 for labor and 1.63 for tax. Isn't this all covered under warranty?

Damn, did you move your trunk lid back to its original position when you got your new clips put on? How long ago did you get this done and how many miles were on your car? I'm going back to get it done right.

NO!

NO! Go back to your original dealer, have them set the trunk lid back where it was. (They shouldn't have touched it in the first place!) Then tell them you want a refund and you want the bumper scratches repaired in accordance with the instructions set forth in the TSB. If they refuse, call 1-800-NISSAN-1 and open a case with Nissan North America. Tell NNA precisely what your dealer did to "repair" the problem and that your dealer refused to follow the instructions in the TSB. Then tell them you want your Zone Rep to inspect the "repairs" at a location other than the dealership. That should get the ball rolling.

i had this done a while ago, over 6 months and 10k miles atleast...and nah, i never went back to the dealer to get the trunk placed in original spot cuz i didnt notice it till a while after...next visit, very soon, i gotta remember to remind to them to fix it

and y2kse, it was only suppose to be a temporary fix cuz they couldnt handle it on that day, thats why they pulled mine out, so it wouldnt hit for the time being...

I posted couple weeks ago. That I noticed that my rear bumper is not aligned correctly with my trunk.
It doesn't scratch the bumper, but I think whatever fix the nissan did for that in 2002 Maxima made trunk not align correctly.

I think some other peps with 2002 noticed that too.

You're probably right, Dany. It's simply a defective design that Nissan has been putting bandaids on for a long time.

Well, I went to the dealer and they said that they could not do the bumper tsb under warranty because my car's VIN is not included in the TSB, even though it's obvious that that is the problem with my car. The TSB lists only cars built before certain VIN numbers as being affected. This assumes that cars with VIN numbers after those listed were supposededly fitted with the new clips when they were built. If that is the case, then my trunk should not be rubbing on my bumper. There is no real way of finding out if my car has the new clips on there, unless the bumper is taken off to look. I then called the 1-200-NISSAN1 and they lady looked into it. She ended up calling the guy at my dealer to find out what was done to fix the bumper problem. After talking to him, she was told that they did the best they could to fix the problem, and still could not fix it according to the TSB because my VIN does not fall into the category. I asked her if there was any way of getting the TSB changed to include my VIN, but she wasn't too sure. So I guess this is Nissan's fault and not the dealers. So I am stuck with my trunk no aligned right, and I would have to pay out of my own pocket if I want to get the new clips put in. Should I try to take of the bumper myself and look at the clips? Then if I see that the clips are not the right ones, I can order them from the dealer and put the new ones in myself? Would this be hard to do? I'm ****ed and frustrated.
