I, too, would like to see what this stirs up...

since some members acted as though I blasphemed when I questioned the .2 sec 1/4 improvements touted by intakes...

What is it about you and huge arguments...

Seriously though, it does make me wonder. I wish we had someone with unlimited dyno access to test this.

I don't often argue, but when a perfectly valid opinion is jumped upon, especially when mine, I see no reason not to defend it.

I can't comment on the motives of others....

So.... what was the cause of all the failing flex sections?? The cattman units were not the only ones to fail early. My Jasco units failed quite fast also.

Agreed. I do my best learning when assumptions are challenged and myths are exploded. Some people don't like that. Too bad for them.

*shrug*

i would think one test, on one maxima, is not enough evidence to start developing conclusions.

interestingly enough, im currently waiting for my bank to transfer funds to my paypal account so i can purchase a berk intake. in light of this information, i must say, i find myself amused. however, stupid as it may sound, im willing to spend $59.95 on making my car sound cool.

so basically this just backs up what all us realist people have known all along. you get little to no gains from just an intake, but it helps free up the air flow when other mods (ypipe, pulley, catback, etc.) are added. Mainly, it looks and sounds cool, and thats why people pay for it.... :::shrug::: i'm happy with my $60 purchase for 1-3hp and a cool look and sound...

Sorry that I'm not poking around on this board every hour to respond.

Anyhow, rude comments aside, what that thread says is basically by removing the factory air box will be sufficent enough to allow the manifold pressure to have a zero vacume meaning that the intake is sufficiently "filling" the engine with enough air. Although this test is a clever one it doesn't do anything to tell us what the vacume was (or wasn't) on the way to redline. The engine may be able to peak out at redline but what if your engine is gasping for air along the way? The test also doesn't show if the engine was under load during the test. Was the guy just reving it or did he drive it and see the pressure at zero?

Nevertheless it does provide some insightfull information.

i was making intake, and i replied over ion that thread. i know i have dynoes to back up my claims and other people have dynoed to a very similair gain, there are other factors to adding hp on the intake side of them just the vacuum, smoother airflow and increased velocity all matter and my intake system adds both those through the velocity stack the monster flow had AND the slightly longer tubing, and the midpipe smooths things out. if there weren't dynoes to back me up and NONE to back him up then maybe this would be an issue but it's just controversy by someone who couldn't even post it himself. if you want me and bryan can pack up and leave and not try to expand maxima aftermarket or you can look at the dynos and the facts again and realize that intakes have PROVEN gains and it's not all based on just the vacuum of the intake.
