Window Tint

I have a slight dilema...Last year, I had my windows tinted @ about 35%. I kinda want to go 5% all around. My dilemas are a) should i have the old tint peeled off, or b) tint over the old tint with a tint % that will come close to the 5% im looking for? If I peel the old one off, I DEFINATELY dont wanna ruin my rear defroster. However, if I tint over the old stuff, I dont want something else to happen (would it fog up easier?) I dont know. Any suggestions/comments are GREATLY appreciated. THANKS!! (MAXSB)

I think you have to peel off the old stuff, otherwise you won't be able to see out. Like looking through a pair of bifocals. The light would reflect off the two different layers in a different way. Might look kinds wierd. I would peel it off and start over.

i think you should scrap off the old tint before putting the new one IMHO. the rear defroster shouldn't be ruined if the person knows what they're doing.

I would recommend taking the old tint off first, tint shops have the stuff to remove the old tint and adhesive,if not the adhesive may react to the tint that you are covering up and make the new tint look like crap. The tint can be removed without damaging the rear defroster elements. Just my opinion.

rear defroster

Even if they know what they're doing you're defroster can get ruined.
I work at a place that does tint and I've seen a guy peel a piece of film off and the defroster lines were stuck to the tint.FYI

Re: rear defroster

So what should I do? tint over the tint or have the old one taken off? Can the defroster be fixed somehow if it is damaged?

Good luck passing a state inspectin with 5%. . .just to forewarn you pretty much no one is willing to pass a car with limo tint. I have a good family friend and even he wouldnt do it. Unless you know of a place ahead of time you might be spending 200 bucks on something you have to take off every year.

Inspection...tickets....none of that's a problem to me....my problem is deciding to remove the tint or to tint over the tint.

A new rear window is only around $500.00. No biggie.

If I was you id strip it off all 4 side windows amd leave the rear on and tint over it.
