The latest on Injen CAI

Here is an email that I recieved from Injen Technology regarding the CAI for the 2k2 Max. Enjoy

The cold air intake for the Maxima will be released within 2-3 weeks. The intake system is a two piece design which will reuse the stock MAF sensor and it will be 3" piping to maximize the power of the V6 motor. During our initial testing, we did not have any problems with the CEL or MAF sensor. Also, our prototype vehicle has been driving with the intake for 2 months daily with no problems.

And yes our CAI made 16 hp to the wheels on a stock 02 Maxima.

Best regards,

Phillip Phong

The injen CAI requires no cutting or drilling.

That is according to Injen themselves.

16hP!? WTF? If this is true, then SIGN ME UP NOW. I'll pay anything! (Well, not really, but almost)

When and where are we going to be able to get these intakes?

So They are gonna just skip over the 2000-2001 and make one only for the 3.5??!!!! That is some b.s.....that really sucks. I would prefer an injen over a place racing any day. nonetheless I wouldnt hold my breath untill the 3.5 intake is actually ready for sale!

I imagine this cold air intake is going to have the filter somewhere deep in the fender well? Is it going to require removal of the wheel to change the filter??????

I hope they keep their word. That 2-3 week line is getting old. Stillen, PR and Injen seems to be using the same line with me - for the past 4 months.

Just went on the NOPI website. The Injen CAI is listed and for sale. Somebody go buy one and tell me how it works out. I think it listed for $280??? Something like that...which is quite a bit more than the frankencar. I also was looking at the HKS exhaust.

This is the point on this topic. I dont believe in Cai's..compared to regular Intakes. But if these guys can prove to us, that we can gain 16 HP on a 2K2, Im buying ! That is the kind of gain I would expect from a Y pipe, or a straight pipe.... Even if they charged 280.00, It would not be bad ! Now, someone prove to me a 16 HP increase. Track time too would close the deal !

even if it isnt significantly better than the other intakes, it can't be any worse than they are. this meaning that they're probably as good if not better than all the other intakes available.

the plus side of getting an injen:
(1) reputable intake brand, (
2) carb legal.

Please do...

as others have seen in different threads, I am an admitted critic and skeptic of the value of intakes that claim .2 sec 1/4 mile diff's....

but if this one lives up to it's claims, and can work on a 2k-2k1, I may have to be humbled into a purchase...

one other thing to wonder about is the noise level...some of us Max owners LIKE the relative quietness of our cars and don't want a roaring teen-mobile sound...

Here is the link for the dyno of the injen technology CAI for the 2k2 max.
http://www.injen.com/testing.html

I am still waiting to hear back from injen on these topics:

-Does the CAI require any cutting or drilling?
-Group deals?
-Is there one in production for the 2k-2k1 maxima?

I will post the answers ASAP.

Install time

Anyone notice the times for the baseline run and CAI run? Baseline was at 4:57 PM and CAI run was at 5:21 PM. Could this be an indication of how long it would take to install? That would be nice if it only took 1/2 hour. Just an observation. What do ya'll think?

Hmm... aren't 6spd's supposed to be dyno run in 4th gear? Wasn't 3rd gear only for Automatics?

Probably.

Though i'd like to see them re-dyno in the right gear. That way the numbers would be more accurate.

Since when did installing a CAI involve drilling? That's total BS and you know it!

All you have to do is load, click, aim and fire.

edit: and repeat if neseccary.

i think they might be talking about the hole you have to cut out of your fenderwall for the place racing cai.

I was kidding, I was saying you could use a shotgun and blow the hole in the fenderwall Thus the "click aim and fire"

Nothing wrong with third gear pull. Just so long as do both in the same gear, there's a good comparison.

What they should be touting is the change in torque. Although the peak is only 1 ft/lb higher. Most of the band is around 10 ft/lbs higher and at peak hp, there is a 13 ft/lb difference.

Looks like the 2k2 is really choked up stock.

But stock numbers do seem low for a 255hp car. Heck my 2k put down 190s stock.

It's good for comparison but it doesn't give accurate numbers to begin with. As i've learned from my own mistake, dyno runs should always be done at the gear closes to a 1:1 ratio.

On my 2k2 Auto, it was dyno'd in 2nd gear (wrong gear) i got 5hp less in HP and similar TQ #'s as the one done by Injen on a 6spd.

3pages of this thread and I still have yet to see Frankencar President hoard this thread about how his intake is still by far the planet's most impressive invention.

i dont know about you guys, but this dyno graph is a bit fishy.

Why is the scale not even for the torque and HP? and why is it putting so low down at the wheels? on the DYNO graph thread, people are putting down around 220hp to the wheels. but this injen one only put down 190hp? that figure corresponds to a 2k-2k1 maxima. even if it was a third gear pull, would it be this much of a difference? and what is up with the power curve? odd dip at 4k.

personally, i'd like to see a differnt graph and a 4th gear pull. something doesnt FEEL right yet

I would call that a serious hole right before 4K, it drops down like 25 ft-lbs torque? did they cut the ignition or something, jeez.

The dip and uneveness is dependent on the graphing scale and the dyno machine (whether it smoothens out the graph b4 printing or not).

seeing as they did the pull in 3rd gear it's wrong, you will get bad results in the wrong gear. also that graph looks not a lot like other 2k2 graphs and the peak numbers for stock are way off.
