Pinging

Hey...Im kind new here, but I assume this may have been posted at another time. Anyway..my car is pinging. Most of the time its going up some sort of an incline (big or small. I have no idea why. And yes, I use 93 octane. Any suggestions/ideas? Is this something I should bring to the dealer or is it a "self-help" problem?

Is teh car fairly new? How many KM'S? Maybe something is touching because of the incline? are you familiar enough with cars to know where the sound is coming from?

What kind of gas are you using?I only use Citgo or Texico and sometimes Sunoco.Mobile is garbage and you will ping with 94 if they had it.Try using different kinds to see if it resolves you problem.Gas is not gas, they are different slightly.Good luck.

Im using SHELL gas and the car is a 2000 SE with 26,000 miles on it. No..im not familiar enough with cars to exactly pinpoint it, but a 2000 shouldnt ping at all, should it?

Shell sucks!!! I never use that sh*t. My friends and I generally stick to 76. I don't know what is causing your problem, but I'd try using some different gas and see if that helps.

NO! Don't use any of that octance boost formula sh*t. If you want to try boosting your octane, go to a 76 station that has 100 octane fuel and mix some of that with the normal 93 (by the way youre lucky to have 93; its only 91 in cali). I don't think the maxima needs anything higher than 93, at least thats what I've heard.

Ummm, apart from bad gas, has anyone considered the fact that it might be bad ignition coils? I thought one of the symptoms of bad coil packs was pinging.

I agree. It shouldn't be pinging. Take it to the dealer for the Ignition Coil TSB(Check the TSB sticky at the top).

If you have Chevron gas stations ONLY use Chevron. I have PROVEN it is better gas in my Sentra that pings all the time.

Max's shouldn't ping regardless of gas you are using unless you have some serious engine mods. There is a known problem with ignition coils on some 5-gen; check the TSB stickies.

The first thing the dealer will try to do is get out of the repair by making you run premium (you'll see in the TSB) but since you are already using 93, which is way more octane than a Max needs, you should be OK there.

Take it in and have him fix it!
