Question on 2k2 HIDs

Do your low beam HIDs stay on when you activate your high beams?

As for standard operation on 2K2's, no the low-beam HIDs shut off when activating the high-beams. That's why I no longer flash people at night about cops or whatever.

low hid beams stay on when high beams are on. looks cool when all four lights (both pairs) are on. fogs, if turned on, will go off when highs are on though.

I've got two different responses - which it is? I'm looking for stock behavior.

Really?! Sorry ... I guess the halogen high-beams overpower the HIDs then because when I hit my high beams I can't see any hint of the HIDs on the road, so I assumed the HIDs (like the foglights) cut out when the highs come on.

Yeah, they stay on. The reason is this: It is not good to turn your Xenon lights on and off! It reduces the life of the bulb....so think about that the next time you make a trip to the coffee shop 2mins away.

Makes sense now. You wouldn't want to routinely flip btwn highs and lows if your HIDs turn off under high beams. I've installed 2k2 HIDs and the wiring scheme I'm using turns off the lows when the highs are on. It would be nice to find a way to disable the relay that does that.

Well, it looks like you've already got the answer.

But, let me confirm... Just yesterday I use my car's headlights to light up a friends back yard (long story), and absolutely for sure all 4 headlights stay on, but the fog's automatically shut off.

Nissan does state in the owner's manual that it is not good to turn off the HID's for a short period of time. What I'm wondering then, is why they have an automatic headlight feature detent in the stalk BEFORE the parking light or headlight option? Wouldn't it have made more sense (for the sake of the lights) to have the detents on the stalk: AUTO-OFF-PARKING-HEADLIGHTS? I don't like to use the AUTO feature, but when I want my parking lights on only, I have to either trun on the lights before I start the car (tough to make habit), or hurry past the AUTO setting and pray that it is not dark enough for the lights to come on, otherwise the HID's blip on and off.

for 2k2 max owners: i think the common sense thing to do is, when it is night time or in a dark garage, turn on the low beams (HIDs) and the high beams (halogens) when in a parked position and walk on outside to the front of the car to see. You should find that all but the fog lights are on.
