Maxima Vs Mustang 4.8

Just thought I would post my first real race in my 2k2 GLE. I was on my way home today when I was confronted by a white (what looked like a 98 - 99). When reached a red light when he signaled that he wanted a piece of me. I have been eager to race someone worth to see how my car would match up. So the light turned green and off we went. I spun my tires like crazy. But still I was able to get a better launch then him. I was ahead by a little until little by little he gained. I think he was in third gear when he began to pass me. Seeing that I was getting somewhat close to the local police station I decided to end the race. When I let go of the accelorator he was ahead by about 1/4 of a car. I was quite happy to see that my car was able to keep up, especially since its an Automatic. Just thought I would share the story.

I've been waiting for a review against a Stang GT. It's 4.6L btw. Did he sound like he had any mods?

Stang GT's come with very loud exhausts so it may have been stock.

I took a prev-gen Stang GT from 55 to 110 on the highway in PA back in January by a couple car lengths at least (Max is stock and auto).

Not bad. Not bad at all

Btw, did you just floor it or were you manually shifting?

Regular drive? So you mean you were racing up to 50mph?

In that case you could've actually kept your lead a good one if you shifted better. At 60 you should be right about redline in 2nd.

In 3rd you'd pull a lot better.

I raced an auto , and I got him by a fender...That was before my suspension MODS, not that it would make a difference...

Thanks for the tips. I am fairly new to the "racing scene". Seeing that my last car was a Grand Cherokee.

This is my experience with the 2K2 automagic, you have to shift it about 2 seconds before you actually need to shift, or you will hit the Rev limiter and really lose... Thats why I hate Nissans Auto...I wont get the VB mod either, because its a few holes being drilled for 500.00 ! I think thats a RIP OFF ! Just my opinion ..which is worth .02 cents !

I beat a 2k-up GT from a stop twice... (must have been auto?) Actually one from rolling 5mph & I got about half a car on him, before the other light turned red. We stop & launch again... i run about half a car length on him again.... but then rolled into dangerous NJ cop territoy so I backed off. I did not reach WOT (believe it or not) cause I was breaking it in at the time But I just couldn't resist racing that Stang... both of us had a passenger. My friend couldn't believe it! (he owns a S2000) I looked over to him & said you're next on my list... Neither of us got a lot of wheelspin, so he must have been an automagician (i guess)

BTW: Nice race, ansky.

yea i have a 2k1 max and i have beat a couple of different ***stangs. I first raced a 5.0 with a 355 gear and coll air induction up to 100 and i had him by a 1/2 car length.

I also raced a 4.6 with exhaust work and cool air induction and i beat him by a car length and a half up to 120 or so.

Mustangs aren't **** and i have less horses than all of you with 2k2's. Anyone with a 2k2 that loses to a mustang basically stock should not be allowed to post on here again

As an active member, even though I sold it, of the 5.0 community, be careful who you think yoooooooooou will beat. That 5.0 next to you might be a dog running a 15, or a 11 second car ready to rip you a new one, like I used to own !

well theres a kid at my school with a v6 2001 stang, thinks he's hot, i shut him up real quick, he initaited. theres also a read 4.6 stang with an exhaust and intake, shut him up to, he was faster off the line (him = manual) but as soon as i could hit my 4700ish (just higher rpms) then i own them, sad to say, he lost, once again he initiated. actually now that i think about it, i never initiate a race, i just accept, it makes me look really good at school because right now, if i initiate a race and i loose everyone will bash me because i am kicking everyones ***, my best friend still looks at the maxima, knows what it can do, but shakes his head, he never-ever, once in his life expected..... he comes from a long line of muscle cars and powerful trucks, his dads highschool girlfriend was driving his dads cuda and she downshifted to pass on the highway, all said and done, there was rubber laid, along with the bolts and 2 rear wheels, she broke the nuts off and the wheels went flying. thats the greatest story ive ever heard, his dads really cool, theyre building a 34 ******* right now with a blown big block and theyre looking at 600-850 horsepower. speaking of cudas, nash bridges is on. i better go to sleep now

when ever we ask about how it ended, he simply replys "all relations were off from that point on" man that would be a fun car to drive.

An 02 maxima should be able to beat a 96-98 gt. But a 99 + should be a close race based on the numbers they are putting out. From what ive seen 02 max's are putting 215-220 to the wheels and 99+ gts are putting anywhere form 225-230 and about 275tq to the wheels. The numbers are pretty close.

Josh,

Your cobra looks sweet man, I wish I could afford one. Priceless rumble.

But i'm wondering, how come you only got a 14.1 on your 1/4 mile? No offense at all, becuase I know your car rocks, but are you automatic or something? Aren't cobra's supposed to be well into the 13's stock? Doesn't the Cobra-R run 12's? Is your's an SVT?

Thanks for the compliments. I know those are crappy times. One of the resons for the crappy times is that they are at a not so well preped trrack, second, its at 2710 feet elevation (Palm Dale,Ca). The last being my not so good driving. with a better sixty 60' i should be able to hit 13's at palm dale. To get a better idea of what my times would look like at sea level use this formula:

Altitude Correction
LACR is 2,710 ft. above sea level.
To figure the altitude factor the formula is as follows:
ET: multiply your et (at LACR) by .9679
MPH: multiply your mph (at LACR) by 1.0337
This will give you the ET & MPH at sea level.
