Finally... 2002 Max SE 6 Speed VS 2002 Alt SE 5 Speed (LONG)

ok, we've all posted our "my max beat this other car stories", but this one is a reader.

It's afternoon time on Interstate 4 in Orlando, FL. If any of you have ever driven here, you know that it's considered "lucky" to reach the speed limit, yet alone get an open strech of highway..... BUT...

I was driving past downtown when this 2002 Altima SE gets on I-4. He is obviously in a hurry to get somewhere. He runs up on the car next to me, and tries to make his way in front of me, but NOoooo.... not a chance. So he changes lanes to the outside lane (2 lanes away from me), and goes around a few cars. After a min or 2, he is 2 cars ahead of me due to traffic and stupid people. So... we play cat and mouse through traffic for about 3-4 miles. I get ahead of him, he gets ahead of me, etc. Until... Finally we get in the same lane. He is ahead, and only one truck in the left lane is blocking a race.

The truck moves... and the race is on.

I dropped from 5th to 4th, and we both took off. I saw him drop to 3rd, so I did too. He was about 1 car length ahead of me (for safety reasons) until there was no one in the middle lane... HE GOT OVER!!!!

Bad mistake. I see him shift to 4th, but I am only at 4800 RPMs in 3rd, so I punch it, then shift to 4th. Now he shifts to 5th. By now I am less that 1/2 car length behind, and am well over 90 MPH. Once in 4th, I punched it again, and pulled up next to him. I shifted to 5th as I was looking out my window at him, and held up my index finger, indicating that I had 1 more gear to go, and floored it. I was 4 car lengths ahead, driving 120+ MPH, and still hadn't hit 6th.

All of this, and no engine mods other than K&N drop-in, and MagnaFlow muffler. Needless to say, I am PROUD TO OWN A MAXIMA!!!!!!

If I read one more of these, I fear I'll be making payments on a '03.

nothing I hate more...

than being in a hurry and someone trying to race me.. great now I have to worry about getting a speed contest ticket instead of just speeding.. thats if the moron doesnt kill me weaving in and out of traffic and cutting me off.

My wife's mom had a medical emergency, I had to get across town in about 10 mins (which defys the laws of physics). Some idiot was tailing us the whole way. When I tried the emergency flashers, he took that as some sort of signal and that only made it worse. I actually had slow down and look like I lost so I could continue without DeathRace 2000..

Index finger huh....

What you meant to say was I gave him the bird and meant it as I have 1 more gear right.

Stories like these make me very happy I chose the Max over the new altima. I really wanted the Altima SE too, but the deals were sizzling on the maxima!

I have yet to regret my choice.

I played a cat and mouse game with the SE-R sentra, and I must admit I was _very_ impressed. But it was the same as the altima, there's just no keeping up with the 2k2 Max!

He probably thought you were letting him know that he was number one!

hahah. Hey, I went in trying to buy an Altima and ended up with the maxima as well. I'm not sure if the ol finger thing is really telling that guy anything! Hold up 6 finger next time (just don't crash!)

While I also found this gesture pretty funny, I was wondering if anyone knew just how much "taller" the 6th gear was on the Maxima. It is a close ratio 6 speed which implies that the range is similar to the previous 5 speed, just divided up more.
