1st Kill....Camaro

Hello All,

I bought my Auto 2K2 Max back in January. I hadn't been much of a Maxima fan, but had always admired their engines. When the 2k2 came out with 255 hp, I had to get one. It's just something about a 4-door car with more power than most two doors that impressed me. I'm sure you know the feeling.

Anyways, I was in Spartenburg, SC two weekends ago and had a run-in with a Camaro. It was about 11:00pm, we were on hwy 85 returning from a party when this Camaro merges on the hwy and floors it. It was about 3 car length in front, when I decided to follow it. We were doing about 75-80 mph. I had 4 other people in the car with me, so I was running heavy. I eased up beside him to see if he would do anything, but he didn't. At this time my wife is giving me the piercing stare. I then decided to just ease pass him, but this guy wouldn't leave my side. I knew then he want a piece of the Max. I eased into the gas until he finally floored it again. He got half a car length in front of me, then I floored it! The car pulled pretty hard at 80 with 4 passengers. I easily walked passed him.

He is now behind me. Once again he floors it, and tries to blow by me. I waited until he got a full car length ahead of me before I floored it. Once again, I walked him.

I believe it was a 2000+ Camaro, auto, V6 (but I'm not sure). What's the spec on the V6? If I could easily walk him with 4 passengers, I think I could hang with a V8?

V6, 200 hp...you should have no problems, ever...

V8's, 310 or 325 hp (SS)...you will get killed off the line and it would be very difficult to overtake on a roll, especially in an automatic Max...

One question:

How much did your wife yell at you afterward?

It would have been worse if I'd lost. Because then, I would probably spend all my money on mods..

The original LT1 in the Camaro's, 93- late 90's had 275 HP. Im not sure we can beat one of those. I had a Ram Air T/A with that motor, and some Mods, 6 speed, and I know I would be able to destroy my Max. My car has 4 doors, and is comfortable though..

My 98 Formula made 292HP at the rear wheels and ran a 13.7 (I couldn't launch it right) at 105. There is no way in hell you would keep up with an LS1 or even and LT1 F-Body.

I knew someone would notice Those times are a 2710 feet elevation at crappy track with a crappy 60'. To get an idea of what my real time would be at sea level you have to use this formula :

LACR is 2,710 ft. above sea level.
To figure the altitude factor the formula is as follows:
ET: multiply your et (at LACR) by .9679
MPH: multiply your mph (at LACR) by 1.0337
This will give you the ET & MPH at sea level.

I got a 12.8 on a GTECH, in my 96 LT1 WS6, 6 speed with Headers, and FULL 3" exhaust, No Cats, Centerforce clutch, and some minor engine bolt ons, and SLICKS !!! ... I even broke 2 motor mounts . I know Gtechs are not always that accurate, but take it for what it's worth. I also hit 160+ on the speedo on the I 40 racing a Ferrari 308. Freakin Car stuck like glue...

Im not too familiar with the car u mention. What year is it? Does it have an Ls1 or LT1? What was his trap speed? BTW the formula was taken from the tracks web site www.lacr.net

Not to speak for WILLSE, but I think he really meant 25th anniverary which would make the T/A a '94. These were white with a blue stipe and came with the 275 hp LT1. 13.7 in the quarter for one of those is very good, in stock condition. I'd be interested in the trap speeds he was getting, because I think that without slicks or any mods, he must be killing the 60'. 13.7 should give him about 103-104mph traps which, with the weight of the car, would translate into about 320-330 crank hp. Again, very good time he got.

BTW, for anyone interested in knowing anything about the Camaro or T/A, or just what an incredibly well organized and informative enthusiast site can and does look like, goto www.f-body.org Since I sold my 94 Z28, I've kinda missed all the support technical resources that were so abundant.
