2K2 Intake Question?

My current setup is one very similar to the franken mid section. I was wondering what would be the effects(not performance related) of not connecting the extending pipe from the mid section of the intake to the rubber tube coming ou tof the engine. And instead remove the tube install a little breather.

If needed look at page 4 of my homepage to understand, it is the blck tube extending from the chrome intake piping.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say, are you talking about the MAF? If so, if you take it out there's a good chance your car won't even start.

(I'm just confused because first you mentioned "mid section of the intake to the rubber tube coming out of the engine" then later on you mention "black tube extending from the chrome intake piping")

no all it is, is the gases from the engine escaping and with the hose it goes back into the intake actually it's good because from what i understand it decreases the carbon build up in the throttle body

Re: Re: Exactly

So then what is the benefit of keeping the mid-section between the maf and the throttle body. Why not just remove that and connect the Maf to the throttle bosy with a rubber connector?

u get the filter further away from the engine less a little less hot air plus i don't think i would try that

breather

I know on turbocharged cars if you leave the breather hose attached to the intake, over time oil vapors will build up on your intercooler pipes and in the intercooler itself. But the turbo really contributes to this since its supplies a strong suction. Anyway on our cars it probably isn't as critical, but it can still help reduce carbon buildup.

So what would be the effects of carbon build up over time?

Interesting. So would not attaching the breather hose also contribute to a better air intake? (e.g. all oxygen and no excess engine gas)

my 2 cents...

I had a experiance with that hose falling off. I go out and start up my car and leave and i start hearing this srcaping sound like it was my brakes or clutch, i stopped my car opened up my hood and notice that that hose fell off, put it back on and no problem since.

fuel filter mod

You're not going to be able to tell a difference in power if you cap off your breather nipple. What the breather does is allow excess blow-by to vent, reducing crankcase pressure. It also assists somewhat in emissions, functioning alot like the EGR valve. If you cap it off, you will keep your throttle body, intake manifold and valves cleaner in the future. Another option is to buy a $3 tubular glass oil filter from Auto Zone or wherever and put it inline with the breather hose. It will trap the oil vapors and allow you to see exactly how much oil buildup you are getting on a day-to-day basis. On my Eclipse I was trapping about ten drops of oil every three weeks.
