Friend's 2k2 TL-S vs. G-35...

My friend said he raced a G-35 w/wife's TL-S in Jersey from a traffic light. They went at it 3-times (3different lights) up to around 60mph... each time his TL-S would take the G-35 by more than a car length.

This is weird... a 2k2 Max is quicker than a TL-S, but the TL-S is quicker than a G-35?...

So will a 2k2 Max beat the G-35 from a stop?

BTW: my friend isn't a Max hater, he owns a 2k1 Max SE, and a 95 SE (modded) & has owned every gen Max, except gen #2.

Probably because the G35 is still tight, and the G35 guy is learning to drive the car? HP is similar, torque favors the G35. Both are 6 speed tiptronic/sportshift right?

I want to go test the new CLS 6 speed and the G35 soon. When is the 6 speed G coming out?

Probably because it probably didn't really happen and is just another story. One full car to 60mph? Nah don't believe it!

Most likely driver error.

However, RWD does eat up more hp than FWD. I haven't driven a G35, but I'm betting the trans shifting is more for luxury than performance.

Re: Friend's 2k2 TL-S vs. G-35...
To what I see the TL-S is quicker than the 2k2 Autos. They have better top end compared to the Maxima.

G35 will loose to the max....probably on a STRAIGHT LINE ONLY.

TL-S has lost MANY times to max's.....CL-S auto...close.

CL-S 6sp vs. 6sp max......??? all driver.

Russ...how's the car runnin??

On Motorweek they got the car to run faster in fully automatic mode, rather than the manumatic mode. So I believe you are correct.

So far pretty good, no problems. 3300 miles so far, I seem to drive this car alot more for some odd reason, racking up the miles all of a sudden. Hehehehe...oh well!

To kinda change subjects, I just noticed you have a Basslink. How does that sound in the Max? I want to get one for the CL, but I haven't heard them. I have come from alot of building stereos, but I want to get alot of bass when I want it, and maybe mild bass when I don't. I am not sure how loud that sucker gets in the car. Let me know. Thanks!

I am totally in love with it....it puts out PLEANTY. ANd fits nicely in the corner of the trunk and does not take up any "useable" space.

Be sure and get the basslink-X, its the newer one...the clear one....more wattage.

It has 3 adjustments, gain, crossover, and bassboost.

I HIGHLY reccommend it

What did you pay for it?

I found these prices:
BassLink 10" Amplified Subwoofer System - 200 Watts RMS $499.99 $299.99
BassLink X 10" Amplified Subwoofer System in Clear casing - 200 Watts RMS SALE! $549.99 $269.99

Is $269.99 a good price?

BTW, I don't see ANY difference in the specifications between the BassLink and clear BassLink X. Any difference besides one is clear?

What you need to be is an Amsoil tester.....

What is that a function of? I know the drivetrain delta relative to manual version auto but not front versus rear wheel drive. I would think that at least some of that would be offset by the rear wheel drive vehicle "hooking up" better due to weight transfer. Interesting though...

That's pretty hard to believe, unless his TL-S is modded... Maybe the G35 guy is still getting used to his car, or still breaking it in, you sure he was on it all the way? From a stop, the G35 should rip the TL-S off the line, RWD vs FWD... and up until only about 60mph, it's hard to imagine that it could pull in so hard to close the gap that fast and gain a carlength... I'm doubting that the 2k2 Max will take the G35 from a stop, unless it's a 6sp vs the auto G...
(Not doubting your kill because driver skill plays a factor, but 2 drivers in G and TLS, the G would rip the TLS hard)

More mass from the drive shaft and rear end assembly plus friction from any of the rotation points.

"Hooking up" will get you out of the hole faster which is easier in a RWD due to weight transfer, but after you have enough traction to prevent sliping in a FWD, it's all about hp to the wheels, gearing, and aerodynamics.

I was just throwing that out there as a possible variable, so don't hold me to that.

I think they gotem at circuit city....but your best bet is to check out the "local" sound shops...and "haggle" with them

Very true, but (yet another) variable would be that the RWD, (G35), should have be going at a higher speed, (once both the G and TLS got traction), thus the FWD (TLS), would have to make up the gap in speed difference, (once it gets traction) and not only make it up, but surpass it to make up the difference the RWD G got out of the hole and even more speed to pass it and put a carlength on it..... Also, the G looks more aerodynamic than the TLS.....

OK guys, not to be a **** to your hero, but the g35 is not as great as you think. I test drove the G35 and it didnt seem to pull like the TLS or Maxima!! Its really weird. I really do think the auto maxima can take the g35 in a race.

Oh and i think the maxima interior looks sooo much classier than the g35

Considering newness of car, I would think most of G35s on streets are still breaking in.
(My milage shot up from 15.6 MPG to 18.6 MPG in last 2 months)
Traction on the car is amazing for quick start off the line. In fact, most of automtive magazine has rated it at 6.1-6.2 0-60 time. (I can count about 5 at this point) The gearing is more agressive than any automatic car I've seen (short of SMG of MR2 Spyder) The engine will rev right up to 6600 RPM before shifting while you are in full throttle. (Maybe I can get more ooomph with shifting it myself but I doubt it with good torque of VQ and close gearing)
0-60 all depends on driver reaction for cars within similar Power to Weight ratio.
I think I pretty much finished intial breaking in of engine and anxiously looking for some track time. Is there any around LA, CA?
Let me know.
