HELP - Memory seat location ?

OK, I'm really not an idiot, but I can't for the life of me get the memory seat location to recall.
This has really got me puzzled!!

According to the manual, you can confirm programming by pressing the 'Set' button. If the stay on for 5 seconds, it's programmed. If not, it goes off after 0.5 seconds. If done this and the light stay on for 5 seconds. So, the seat is set, right?

So, what EXACTLY is the procedure for recalling the seat memory position? The owners manual says to turn the igition to ON (? - does it mean to start the car). I've tried both combinations... Next, with gear selector in Park, and E-brake engaged, press the desired memory location (and hold for approx. 1 second.) OK, I've done this, and the seat doesn't move! What am I doing wrong? Does the driver's door have to be open/closed?

Hmm... wait a minute. I just thought of something! Does the auto-seat positioner switch have to be ON (ie. set to AUTO)? I have it off, b/c I don't like the seat to move when I get in and out! Has anybody tired this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yep, even though I have a 6 spd (w/ out the auto-seat entry) I believe the switch has to be in the ON position. I even have that switch, and the memory seats do not work when it's switched OFF.

Hope that helps, but I'm sure you already figured that out based on your post

Hey thanks! I went out for lunch today, and sure enough the auto seat potitioner has to be in the ON position for the seat memory buttons to work.

Must be nice to have a seat memory option. Just another reason to make me want to go out and buy a 2k2.

while a nice feature to have, how often is it really used?

Ok, in a house with more than one person using the car frequently, but from what I can tell on the .org, most of us have one user Max's, even if more than one person in the household...

I keep my auto seat switch in the "on" position all the time. However, sometimes the set moves back when I exit and other times it doesn't. AND, the memory seats don't work half the time either. Yes, I do press the button for several seconds and the key is in the ignition. I know they are programmed because the light stays on for 5 secs after pressing the set button.

Even more strange - when the seats are not working, I can switch the car out of park (ignition off, key in the on position) and then return it to park and then hit the memory buttons and the seats move.

I am taking it into the shop Friday.

Talk about an ****!! I did not know my seat should move back automatically. I have a 2k2 and my memory seats work fine but my seat does not move back when I shut off the car. I do I enable this?? Thanks

there is a rocker switch on the lower left hand side of your dash, near the hood release. this enables/disables the auto seat move function...
