$66 estimate? wtf?

took my car to dealers today to get 1) oil change 2) my driver side window is loose, i can pull it up/down about an inch when its open
3) get my SES light checked out 4) ive been having rough starts so wanted them to check that....but i get there, tell the guy, and he tells me i have to potentially pay $66 for the estimate if the problems dont fall under warranty, but if they do, then i dont have to pay...but if they dont, i have to pay 66 + whatever else they feel like charging...i called my dad and he said dont give em the car so i came back w/out anything except a car wash, which was coo...anybody else go through this $66 thing? ive read a lot of posts about ppl going to dealers and stuff but nothing about $66 est deposit...they guy was like its standard procedure...feedback please....btw, im at like 24900 miles

It varys from dealer to dealer. I had to pay $90 for a strut estimate on my old Altima just for them to look at it, but they applied to the repar if I got it done. Well, they claimed they lubed them, but the problem persisted and I took it to a different garage where they told me that the struts were dead. Thank God for the aftermarket warranty.

To answer your question....I only bring my car to the dealer if it is under factory warranty and they no charge you...Otherwise tell them to **** off and that you're going to buy your next car from their competition...

Since your car has only 25K on it, it should be under warranty for WHATEVER is causing the problem... The guy was just trying to screw you for some money... B$$tards... By the way, that whole computer thing is a crock. I can't believe they try to charge that much... I had a Ford dealer try to do the same thing to me with my old Contour. After about 15K miles, the stupid air bag lights would come on every so often. They replaced the sensors once under warranty, a second time with a recall, and of course, it continued - by the time I got back there, it was past 36,000 miles. "Yeah , we're sure it's not the same thing, so it'll be $75 to hook it up and check it out. Then if does turn out to be the same thing, you won't be charged". These were the same idiots who couldn't figure out why my check engine light would come on every so often as well... A month later, I ditched the stupid car..
