Manual Transmission Fluid

Does anyone have a recommendation for what brand/type of transmission fluid to use for the manual 2k.

I've heard of using Redline MT90, but I can't seem to find it around here.

Would Dexron III be ok?

You can order MT-90 from Stillen (they will probably rip you) or Courtesy Nissan, to name a few. I buy mine locally at S-K Speed for about $9.00 a quart. Stuff's expensive, but worth it.

Would you happen to know what Courtesy charges per quart, and how many guarts are required for the oil change. My tranny is a little notchy going into 3rd and 4th, I've heard this oil helps alot. Thanks!

2-3 Qts

You will not need mroe than 2 or 3 qts. I used just over 2 (depends how long you let it drain). Made a big difference on my car!!

My 97 has 69K and it's been changed 3 times already. The last time was because I replaced my clutch though. For you, now would be a good time to change it to a nice high quality synthetic. Unless your car is used in very severe service, there is no drain interval specified by Nissan.

You get smoother shifts all the time, but it's especially noticeable when the weather gets really cold. Your transmission's operating temperature will also be reduced and you will get slight better fuel mileage as well. Just make sure what ever brand you order is a GL4 lube, not GL5. GL4 can be a little tough to find in local stores. Synthetics are definitely worth the money in my book, though I'm probably a little biased

I believe the 2K and 2K1 5-spds require 4.5 quarts. (Mine required 4.5 quarts.) I've seen posts that say the 2K2 6-spd requires 2 or 3 qts.

He has the 2K2, which requires that you buy 3 quarts to ensure you have enough.

The 5 speed drivers should have 5 quarts on hand to ensure they have enough.
