hesitation 2002 SE AUTO

When in 4th gear, 40+ mph. If I take my foot completely off the gas to
coast (ie, in and out of traffic), then step back on the gas, it does a
little "hiccup" thing - not really a hesitation, as for a split second you
feel acceleration, but then you feel a slight hesitation, then off you go
steady. Like it can't make up its mind to go or not go. If I just let off
the gas slightly/enough to coast, and then push forward, notice nothing but
smooth acceleration
Anybody else experience this or has any ideas what's going on?

"Drive by wire" phenomena... or should I say "Hang by wire"

It may be "normal" for the 2k2s. If the 6-speed guys have it, then it's not our trannys...

I think i sorta, kinda have this problem. But, unless you're "flooring it" it shouldn't bother u, right?

it sounds like the torque converter unlocking and locking back up... is normal, just seems nissan trannys make it more noticeable...

It is the converter lock up. It happens at all speeds above 40mph (or so) but it very noticable when the engine is "lugging" at low rpm.

And thus why i keep mine in 3 when going through city traffic. It's just more responsive that way.

Yeah mine does it too! But my friend's doesn't. It only does it if your doing around 40, but when your really cruising say around 85-90 when the rpm's are a little higher it doesn't do it.
