whirring noise during normal launch

Hello all. I have a 2002 GLE, and when I launch normally, the car makes a whirring noise when the tach goes past 1500 rpm's or so. I have about 800 miles on my car, and this phenomenon was evident at around 100 miles, but it has gotten worse. The sound is hard to describe, except that it's relatively high pitched, not horribly loud, and almost sounds like that machine-like noise a porsche boxter makes when it accelerates. Has anyone experienced this, and is this a problem or nothing to really worry about. Thanx in advance for any advice.

Hey man, how's it going - I also own a 2k2 Gle, and I have kinda noticed this as well, but I really haven't considered it a problem or anything as the car is running fine, not sure what it is...but everythings working ......

sorry i'm so bad with the mechanical aspect of cars...but a friend who knows cars better who heard the noise while i was driving said that it may be the alternator bearings (??), a bad water pump, or the intake. any idea on any of these? thanx

I had a bad wheel bearing that made the sound you're describing. Nissan replaced it under warranty.
