He fails to point out that not all of those people with the lights steal them. There are quite a few people with them, especially on this board, who believe it or not buy them. I bought a 2k2, but I have seen many people with 2k+'s around here with them. It might be a problem, but that article makes everyone sound like a thief.

yes, and he failed to add Nissan to that hi-class list of mfg. with factory HIDs

I imagine if the cops respond like this guy wants, everyone with an aftermarket HID would have to carry around proof of purchase!!

It's obvious that people who's driving those carfs are not thief's. When I was working on conversion of headlights from 3-series BMW on my 94 GXE I was searching junk yards, used parts, but thought never crossed my mind to go and attack someone's car.

"HID headlights are very popular with Bronx Street racers. So popular in fact, that on a Friday night on Zerega Avenue, it seems that all the customized Honda Civics and Acura Integras have them."

superwhites count as HIDs i guess.

What a joke!

BTW, I don't think Maxima owners have to worry, since the cop would have to know Maixmas VERY well to be able to tell the difference between a 2K-2K1 and a 2K2.

Sorry to hear that!

What kind of damage did they cause and where? Hood? Fenders?

I'm just wondering if they open the hood or pry them out through the front.

knock bumper down, grab underside of lamps pull up and upper tabs usually break.

I've had two friends w/ TLs and one w/ a Maxima, attempted light theft, all 3 failed.

TLs had drilled housing w/ coat hanger going through mounted on two sides on frame and radiator support, the left side was attacked first, and ended up in a broken headlamp unit, and right unit untouched. Another TL had thin wire wrapped around HID plug and harness, which was attached to frame. As soon as the unit was pulled, cut the plug and harness, both units were taken, but ballast, harness, and HID burner(bulb) were useless since half of the wiring harness was sliced up, and the HID burner base was still attached to the plug.

Maxima has both systems in use, theif couldn't even get the unit pulled out, just bumper damage.

I'd shoot first and ask questions later if someone attempted to take my 2K2 lamps. Wait, this got me in legal poop. n/m.
I'd "stop" Robin Hood tho. make him loose a few fingers.

-Peace
