pretty loud bang shifting from R to D

2000 GLE, with auto, 48k miles. the other day i noticed that when I shift from R to D relatively fast there's a distinct bang coming from tranny. i never noticed this before and i don't think i changed the way i shift.
if i do it slowly from R to N, then from N to D, everything is normal.
i have a long trip coming up in two weeks and didn't want to drive if this might be a problem.
anyone had this happen? any ideas?
i will probably take it to the dealer to check out, just wanted to see if anyone knows anything here, as i will not be able to visit the stealership till the end of the week.

ok lets start with the basics.......... Do you have any mods on the car?

The reason I ask this is because I had my FSTB that was rubbing against the top of my engine bracket. Then the hole for the intake pipe was not cut correctly which caused alot of banging to happen everytime i shifted in my auto tranny cause when you shift from just R to D, the engine shifts fairly a good amount, and so the the intake pipe and it was banging in the hole.

If none of the above, then check the tranny fluid and see if it smells burnt or what not. Maybe time for a tranny filter change.

I guess u're netural dropping the transmission thats why you get that bang, can you feel it? or is it just noise? if you can feel a forward jerk with the car when you put it into D u're neutral dropping it. Try stopping completely & wait for rpm to go back to ~800rpm before shifting quickly back to drive.

I am completely stopped when this is happening. i'm asking, because, i don't think it was happening before and just started doing it.
i guess, i don't really trust dealership to find the exact problem and correctly fix it.

oh, yeah, there's no mods on the car. (except for new tires and just changing engine oil last weekend)

where are all the rest of motor mounts, i can only see the two up front and on passenger side fenderwell.
i popped the hood open and shifted while looking at the engine, it does move quite a lot front to back.

The fluid level is good and it doesn't smell like burnt sugar, but it sure is stinky
