I got out this afternoon and was hit in the face with a strong burning plastic smell. Checked underneath and in engine bay, nothing. just got back from Comp store, and again serious burning plastic smell. Got my wife out and we agreed it was strongest on driver side. I also smelt it in traffic. I have an oil change due, so luckily it will be going in for service anyway. bizarre. I havent got my flasher relay replaced yet, it squeals loudly, I turned them on to see if that was the cause, didnt seem to be. I wonder what it could be? (no, no aftermarket bulbs )

 

Maybe you ran over a plastic bag and it clung to the exhaust or some other part of the car that gets hot?

 

I was thinking the same thing. My parents ran over a plastic bag with their car one time and they smelled plastic for a long time.

 

but I couldnt see it last night. got the bag off, but that baked on part is going to stink forever!!
