Anybody ever race an IS300?

I personally haven't...

If any of you guys have raced an IS300, can you post here and tell me what the outcome was? Make sure to say whether you (and the IS300) were maual or auto's. I'm thinking the manual Maxima's ate'em up while the auto's had mixed results.

Thanks in Advance!

2k2 auto here. An IS300 (auto) was zipping from light to light a while back. As i just hit 1k miles i decided to open her up.

He had a headstart of 1-1.5 cars. I slammed on first, manually shifted to 2nd (chirp) and slowly eased past him as i was about to shift to 3rd. After 3rd... bye bye IS300

Similar experience here. Most of those IS300 guys are RICERS, that came up with some extra money to " LEASE " a car...

Just pray you never run into an IS430. So far, fortunately, there's only one of them. Check out Page 35 of the June 2002 edition of Sport Compact Car. And then be afraid . . . be VERY afraid!

I tried lining up next to one of the many Audi's, no luck. I got stuck with a Riced out Civic, no interior ( SMOKED HIM) 14.8 vs 15.6, a Cobra, and a Turbo, Integra, ... The integra only beat me by 2 cars, and most of that is because I was turning of MY Traction Control when the tree lit up...

I got roasted by a Civy that was stripped down to bout 1600lbs, had a intake and muffler 14.6 to 15.3. It was hard to overcome his weight advantage (said he had 165hp).

Any chances of you scanning them in? I don't have an SCC subscription and my local Walgreens always runs out of them fast

IS's in Miami are defenitly not a POS. I have beat about 3 but there are I think 3-4 IS in FL that are Turbocharged. And I have a friend with a yellow one with 450rwhp and 398lbs-ft. This is a real monster! Hopefully we'll race once im done with my next mods...

I think the IS300 is a great car! Very well built and handles much better than the Max. I HATE the rear lenses but other than that, a great car. I just got finished putting a Swift Racing Intake on my buddies IS!

Too bad our Max intakes don't look like that!!!

Thanks for all the feedback...

I happen to think that the IS300 has a pretty aggressive looking front end and a nice "looking" car overall but it's definitely overpriced.

Without a doubt, you 2K2's would only toy with the IS but what about the rest of you 2K or 2K! owners? What were your experiences?

thanks again guys...

I put down an IS300 that had intake and exhaust 5 times at the track with my 2k2 GLE, I ran constant 14.7's and he ran 15.3's, It was an automagic like me with more mods. I smashed a Stock 2k1 Is300 14.8 - 15.8 (auto vs. auto)

The IS300's motor is very strong and will hold up to a decent amount of boost abuse.
All it needs is a thicker head gasket to lower compression, a fuel pump upgrade and a rising rate FPR (and a turbo of course) and you have one killer 4 dr sleeper. I bet you could run a 100 shot with the right fuel setup with no problem too. But stock vs. stock they should never EVER beat a 2k2.

Agreed, from what i've read so far. The engine on the IS is also sometimes considered the Supra's long-lost brother, In that it takes kindly to mods.

2k2's all will have them for dinner, 95-01 Maxima auto vs IS300 very close depends on the drivers reaction time!

I just test-drove an IS300 5-spd on Saturday and was not at all impressed with the acceleration. My automagic 2K2 would hand it its ***. However, the IS300 would leave it behind in the turns. But the main reason I wouldn't buy an IS300 (aside from the acceleration shortcomings) is that it is just too damn quiet. I couldn't drive it without constantly checking the tach because I couldn't hear any feedback from the engine or the road/wind. A real driver's car should not be that isolated from the outside.

My sister has one and here is what I think of it:

Pros:
-Even though our famed VQ is smooth, the i6 is smoother with NO first or second order vibrations
-TQ is amazing off the line
-Gears are VERY well spaced (automatic)
-Doors shut with a substancial thud
-Steering is sweet; small rimed, quick, and very accurate
-Sound system has big bass
-seats have butter soft leather and hug you (she has the all leather interior)
-Manual-matic feature on the steering wheel is neat
-Roomy (My family isn't that tall, we're asian )
-More luxury than my Max
-HID's are awesome!
-Factory spoiler has clear taillight

Cons:
-pop rod hood
-yellow foglights
-All dash and trim are hard and hollow plastic
-Less luxurious feel than Maxima
-Ride is too tightly controled for long distance comfort
-Rear seats sit too low
-She has the "blacked out" taillamps, I like the clear ones better

Will my car beat it? I doubt it. It would be a good run and I think it might walk on me at high speeds because it has 5speeds.

How exactly is it "More Luxury" when it has "Less luxurious feel, Ride is too tightly controlled for long distance comfort and Rear seats sit too low"?

I'm asian too, but the first thing i commented when i took the IS300 for a spin was "is it me or is this a lot smaller than even my Civic".

Just my 2c

Just my 2c

EZ

It has more luxury features, auto up/down and the front windows, maybe even all four if I can recall, HID's, 8way for both front passengers, 5speed auto with steering wheel controls, full guages (fuel, temp, charge, oil temp ect...) 240watt system... get my point? I'm comparing it to MY car of course.

It feels less luxurious because of its hard plastics everywhere on the dash and the car has thin panels that doesn't give you the impression of substance like the Maxima, But it sure has heck feels more solid down the road and glued down driving it though.

Ride is too tightly controlled meaning the car bounces up and down over bumps and it twacks and thumps over them like a stiffly sprung car.

Rear seats sit too low meaing it should be placed higher so the passengers can have a view out.

One more thing I'd like to add, THOSE BRAKES! whoa!

Supra TT: 2JZ-GTE
Supra NA/IS300/GS300: 2JZ-GE

The Supra TT engine has an iron block and head. The "GE" NA engine has the same iron block but an aluminum head. So the NA engine is still pretty heavy (which is why the IS weighs a good bit more) but the engine is extremely durable and still able to handle some pretty heavy tuning. The NA engine still has the extra cooling passages that the turbo engine has so it can handle it.

Some of you guys make the Maxx out to be a 73 LeSabre in handling. I have Maxspeeds, FSTB ,RSB, and it handles great ! .. Im not sure how much more you want from a full size sedan . You can put that shoebox IS300 in my trunk !

Hey bro, I have no doubt that you worked that car. I drove a IS300, and that car felt WAY more glued to the road then my car. (stock vs. stock). Have you ever driven a maxima with springs compared to a IS300 with springs? Big difference in feeling.. Just my opinion, dont get all hurt on me now.
