Time for a tranny cooler...but which one??
sup guys......I should be getting my VB Mod done soon from Mobiletek but first I want a tranny cooler. I'm probably getting the Hayden but I'm not sure of which model/part number to get. I know there is a specific model I should get if I'm getting Don's VB mod but I can't remember what it was.
Can anyone help me out with this?
Thanks!

doesnt really matter, a tranny cooler is a tranny cooler, if it works it does the job just find, hayden is what most people use but whatever fits ur need just go 4 it, its gonna work just fine regardless what brand u go with. and just one thing kinda off the subject but there is something really weird about the auto trannys try this cruise at about 45mph, hit the overdrive off button, and ur rpm should climb to about 3k, slowly work up your speed around 3500 its rpms drops by about 300 and slowly start to climb again, but if u hit the o/d button again, it just jumps back up 300rpms and drives normal again, i test drove several 2K, and 2k1 maxs and they all did the same thing, just try it ull see, its weird????

Different coolers available
I know most guys use the Hayden 403, but here's some other options to confuse you:
Bulkparts.com
I like the look of the stacked plate cooler #1677 Hayden Transaver Plus. Not a bad price too.

For only around 30-40 dollars this seems like a really good idea.

Regarding your strange automagic stuff, that's typical torque converter lock up routines there. All of them do that so don't feel bad.... Feel bad because (LIKE ME) you have an autotragic and not a 5 or 6 speed!

All others (I believe) do not feature this design unless you add an external thermometer or something.

but on the issue of cooling fluid on cold days, ya that can be a concern, but unlike most people i have the luxury of working at an auto shop so im gonna hookup a tranny cooler in a way that i can just disconnect it in the winter anf connect it after its over in a matter of minutes. just have to make the hose with ends that clip on and ill need to get a center piece for it to connect the two lines together. some mights say yea get the B&M, but im too ghetto i just like playing with cars so im just gonna do this thing my way, but if u live in a place thats gonna get really cold in the winter, yea just go for the B&M, like i said they all do the same job, its all on what u want...

B&M transmission coolers at Jegs
45.99 for 19000 GVW
42.99 for 16000 GVW
I wouldn't say that all trans coolers are the same. Cheap ones will break/burst/leak at the seams/welds. Make sure you get one of the popular name brands(i.e. permacool/hayden/b&m/flexalite/tru-cool...).
The haydens look the same as the b&ms which look the same as imperials(dayco)which look the same as the flexalites which look the same as the generic ones that jcwhitney, summitracing and uhaul sell. Makes me wonder if they all role of the same assembly line and end up in different boxes(contradicts first sentence).
Fluid and fan thermostats are available and should be used if you are afraid of excessively high or low temp. The viscosity controlled b&m and trucool are interesting. They are cheaper than using fluid/fan thermostats. And should prevent excessively cold fluid in the winter. Cold fluid prevents moisture evaporation which could cause corrosion.
Autozone and Pepboys around here sell Hayden from $30-90.
Uhaul has a decent one for $46.
I use a dayco(not available anymore)stacked plate one. It is ~7x11x.75 inches. It looks identical to the hayden rapidcool/trucool(dana corp)/.... And, I like the way it looks(not that I can see it). Tube/fin are bland but are a little cheaper. Stacked plate ones are supposedly more efficient per cubic inch.
As for my recommendation, use any name brand one that you like.
For normal driving, any one with a GVW of 12000-15000 pounds is good.
For aggressive driving, any cooler with a GVW rating of 15000-20000lbs is plenty. The haydenauto and flex-a-lite websites have application guides if you want part numbers.

The bigger cooler looks nicer, but is probably overkill. Ounces count when you're drag racing... seriously.

Transmission coolers should be sized by engine HP, fluid capacity, vehicle ATF cooling already present, driver abuse, and not just GVW.

Plus, the BMracing one that was listed(70268) is advertised with low pressure drop and temperature control(viscositythermostatthingy), and is a little smaller(easier to install) than the Hayden404 mentioned in the FAQ.
