A little more info...

Is it auto or stick?
What kind of noise is it? Scraping? Whirring?

Lemme know.

My 2k2 I35 has the same thing. Mine's kind of a growling/whirring sound - I have a sneaking suspicion it's my STB, but I can't really find a valid reason for it

It's possible it's your FSTB. If installed incorrectly the engine (while in gear) moves forward or backward depending on your direction.

The FSTB is probably hitting your manifold.

Have you had your rear brakes replaced? If not checked the rear brakes to makes sure they are not worn out. Before I replaced mine, I got a loud embarassing squaling noise everytime I would go in reverse. what about grinding noises when you brake or when hitting bumps? http://www.geocities.com/octoman77/rearbrakes/

Not sure if it's the rear brakes but doesn't hurt to check them.

i think you pin-pointed it ... it only happenes in reverse and there are no grinding noises, only a whinning noise

again it's my moms car, no FSTB, nothing, she's got a stock max
