Power Door Locks Intermittently Lock By Themselves

According to alldata.com there is a TSB on this problem.

" 01-025 JAN 02 Power Door Locks - Intermittently Lock By Themselves"

Anybody have access to actually read what the TSB posted above says?

My wife has the same problem on her 1998 QX4.

Any reputable Nissan dealer should be able to perform a quick exorcism on it. It'll be as good as new afterward.

Totally OT, but sometimes our ceiling fan and light comes on by itself in the living room. It's one of the ones with the remote control, but no one is ever even near the remote when it happens. Freaky stuff.

From my 2K1 owners manual:

If the following operation is not carried out withing 5 minutes after pressing the "UNLOCK" button, all doors will be locked automatically.

When any door is not opened.

When the ignition key is not set in the ON position.
Do 2K2's have the same 'feature'? Could that be what happened to you?

Are they X10?

I used to sit in a buddy's apartment when he lived in a giant complex, and play with his X10 controller to see if I could turn anyone's lights on and off.

Change your codes. It might help...

X10? What the hell is that? It's a Hampton Bay fan from Home Depot. And it usually happens between 11PM and 4AM- really weird.

I think what you're talking about is unlocking the car but never opening a door or the trunk; the car will relock automatically.

What I'm talking about is something totally different. The door just freaking locks while driving down the road. Or when the key is removed from the ignition, or like today, they locked with I used the turn signal. Weird stuff, I know!

So, does anyone have access to read the full TSB on this issue?

It's a standard that allows you to multiplex control commands onto your AC (wall outlet) power. (At least I think that's how it works. )

It allows you to turn on/off/dim lights and control other outlets/appliances remotely via a controller that simply plugs into the wall, or by computer control. Each outlet and light you have on the system has an X10 module that has a specific code. If you know that code, you can control someone else's stuff.

So if your ceiling fan uses an X10 standard control module, one of your neighbors (whose using the same code) can control your fan and lights.

They have some generic X10 stuff at radio shack, or you can go to
http://www.x10.com to see how the stuff basically works.

I was replying to tapwr3000.

'Course, if my car started doing what your's does, I'd have the car exorcized.

On the day I purchased my car I unlocked it with the remote, got in, started it, and got out. After about 15 minutes of talking to the dealer before leaving, I went to get into the car to leave and it was locked! They told me I must've bumped the lock button when I got out. I was like "f**k off I didn't bump the lock" and it became this great big ordeal. How messed up.

I'm glad to hear I wasn't imaginating things.

I sometimes wish Japanese companies would pay their translators more than $1.75/hour...

If you unlock your doors, but don't open any *and* the ignition is not on, your doors will relock in 5 minutes. (I suppose this was put in if you accidentally unlock your car...)

On another note, does anyone think the keyless entry system transmits too far? I was in an 8th floor hotel room once, with my car across a parking lot, and I could lock/unlock the car from my room. It was great fun scaring the heck out of someone who was near my car...

The remote keyless system could be picking up a signal from somewhere to lock the doors. I believe that all radio controlled devices have warnings that they may receive signals that may cause undesirable operation.

Boy, I hope not. I'd hate to think that some schmuck is hitting his garage door opener and causes my locks to activate.

Considering you need to program the specific fobs, there has to be a code transmitted, so random openings would have to be pretty rare, almost non-existant if they send a checksum with it.

(When you're at a really big maxima (or nissan) meet, do you hit your fob to see if you can activate someone else's locks? )

This also asks the question, does the remote system even function with the car running? bluemodena's problem happens when he's moving. Sounds more like a loose connection that completes the circuit once in a while. Dunno.

Right, as per the FCC rules, devices such on car alarm remotes (and even TV remotes) MUST accept all signals even if they result in undesired operation.

Mine does. I usually warm my car up in the winter at work by leaving it running and taking the alarm fob with me and locking the doors.
