VQ35 question

As has been noted before in earlier threads, some dyno graphs show the VQ35 dropping hp after 5.5k. Others, like Soundmike, see their egines keep the hp curve flat to redline. I believe, through the seat of my pants, that I'm lucky enough to have a top end breather as there is not noticeable drop in thrust after the 5500 rpm barrier. For those of you who have cars that fall off after 5500, is this loss of power noticeable when driving or only by looking at the dyno curves? Any theories as to why some can pull to redline and others fall off? Any relationship between build date (I'm thinking a fuel map programming change) and this phenomenon? BTW build date on my car is 01/02.

Keep in mind the tach is 400-500 RPM fast at redline so if you have a top end breather like me it will hold it's power to a indicated 6800 RPM. I have no clue why some cars hold there power longer then others. The build date on mine is 9/1/01, DMB's max is the same and he has a bottom end feader

If i'm not mistaken, my build date was sometime July 2001. (Gotta double check but that sounds right).

I have no idea what's wrong either, but i did notice one thing... it seems at times when i redline it the Max doesn't feel like it's pulling at higher rpm's until i get to 3rd/4th gear. Dunno, must be just my butt.

grrr. it's weird i know hopefully the extrude hone will fix all that. the tachs on these cars are way off though, i ahve my shift light set at 6100rpms and it turns on at like 6450.

I'm alittle suspicious about these dyno graphs. I haven't felt any drop off in power at or near redline. I'm wondering if someone is letting off the gas alittle at the end of the gear, maybe to shift or something.

There was a post a few weeks ago about the rod ratio in this motor being optimal for midrange power. Its probably just alot of technical factors inherent in the design of the engine. Anyway, does anyone know the compression ratio in this motor?

I read it was 10.3:1 too.

If you guys seem to be having two different sets of dyno results for the same engine then maybe your VTC's are malfunctioning. Remember that the VQ35DE has these now also, in addtion to the VIAS. The VIAS you should clearly see in the mid-range, but the VTC would be pretty seamless. If it wasn't functioning properly that could very well explain why some cars drop off at high RPM's noticeably more so than others.

You guys should keep in mind that b/c of TQ mulitiplication, the power drop off becomes more apparent in the upper gears. Like in my 4th gen, we all know of the power loss up top b/c i don't have VI, (that will soon change), I feel the power drop much more in 4th and 5th than i do in 1st and 2nd.
