It's getting cold outside now, and I was wondering if there is any procedure I should be following for warming up my max..

Here's my ritual right now :
-Get into car
-Turn it on
-Change the cd
-Wait until the RPM goes down to about 1,000...
-Hold down the accelerator at 1.5-2k RPM for 10-15 seconds..
-Trow it into reverse (i have to back out of garage)
-Wait a few seconds (I have auto, and throwing it into gear causes the slightest bit of vibration for a few seconds)
-RPM drops to about 700-800, and I pull out

(once it's completely warm, it idles around 500-600 RPM)

Anything I'm missing/doing wrong? (just wanted to make sure)
How do you guys go about warming up your Max?

Is that healthy for the car?...

i know that during the summer, It would start up, and idle right away @ about 700..., but out of habbit, warmed the car up for almost a minute anyway..

Now when I start it up (it's cold), it idles almost 3x as high.., and I wait a few min before moving..

i dont know if holding down the accelerator down for 15 - 20 sec is so good to do... i know that if the engine is cold just shift it into 2 and drive for a few min slow (under 30) until the temp gauge starts moving and then go back to D and you should be good... the engine just needs a little time to warm up... if its really cold where u are then u could always get an engine block warmer... or you can get auto start... u know engine starts by the press of a button... just start the car from your house a few min. before you leave and it will be warm when u get in...

Actually, I don't rev the engine hard, if that's what your thinking.. (1,500 rpm is about the speed it starts up at, and only about twice the idle speed), and requires just the slightest pressure on the accelerator... It's not VERY cold [in NJ] (hasn't even dropped below freezing yet)..

I only hold down accelerator lightly before coming out of garage (because I know that I have to get onto highway in 2-3 min), so I figure that's a healthier way of warming it up, than a clod acceleration to 65mph (correct me if I'm wrong).

On my way out of the parking lot in school, I warm up the engine for a min or two, and then take a slow ride around the parking lot (it's 1 way, so I have to go around anyway), before going out onto the local roads...

I think doing what the manual says is good enough

just wait for the RPM to drop under 1K and go. Mine starts at 1200, then 1100-1050, then 900 or so, later when warm its 700. but I go after that first or second drop.

Sorry, I must've missed that part in the manual... Guess I should read more carefully next time..

BTW.. any of you routinely turn on your A/C in the winter??? (i think it said at least once a month in the manual)..

MANUAL

MANUAL STATES TO WAIT AT LEAST 30 SECONDS AFTER STARTING WHEN ENGINE IS COLD, OTHER THAN THAT IT'S UP TO YOU.
I TRY TO WAIT AT LEAST FEW MINUTES, OR START THE CAR, PUT MY HEATED SEATS ON, AND GO BACK TO BRUSH MY TEETH AND GRAB MY THINGS BEFORE I LEAVE, AND THEN DRIVE EASY UNTIL IT REACHES THE NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURES. SEEMS TO WORK FINE.
PEACE

the manual...

Well, I read my manual cover to cover because I was having trouble starting and whatnot. Everytime I went into the dealer, they asked if I read the manual... so I tried to memorize it so they couldnt lie to me. I might have picked up the dropping down a notch from a Nissan tech... sorry, its all a blur now. thats where I *thought* I read it. I also read our Pathfinder manual, it may say that in there.
