question about gutter mesh

Do you guys paint the gutter mesh the color of your car or does it look good to leave it the silver it is. My cars black so match color would not be hard obviously. If so do you use primer, a few coats of spray paint, then clear coat of some sort?

Re: question about gutter mesh

i did not paint mine and it looks pretty good. since u have black also, i would not paint it. u would not be able to see the mesh if u did so...unless that's what ur going for.

I was experimenting yesterday and I painted one a stainless steel color and another gunmetal. They both dried extremely quickly, although I ended up mounting the plain silver unpaited one because I thought it looked best.

But painting it is a great idea if you think it will look better. Just be careful when you are mounting it that you don't scrape off the paint with fishing line or wire ties.

I applied chrome paint and then many layers of clear coats.

Depends on your location. I have no worries in AZ. I think the thicker stuff won't rust as quickly. Don't buy the cheap stuff.

question about valence

Today i made a template for the valence. Well I think to was the valence. I have a 1996 and I made the template by cutting cardboard to size and then removing splash guard (which was a *****!), then then I put into place behind those lines and marked off with a sharpie. Then I took it out and outlined it onto the gutter mesh. To bad I couldn't find where my parents put the dremel. Oh well I will cut it tomorrow or the next day. The problem that arose for me was I couldn't fit the card board in the middle slot above the other one because of the black support like thing thats in between the two slots. Do you guys just make the grill for the middle slot by making the template on the outside of slot? Do you make it into to parts or do you just place it over that divider in the center of the middle slot? Does it look good if you only do the valence, but not the top grill? Oh one more thing. If you put the mesh over those little lines does it look better then putting it beind them? It just seems easier because I will not have to cut it exact but I don't want it to look ghetto.

Aluminum doesn't rust, if you dont apply clear coats you'll see the shinny look dissapear in a couple of weeks-months, paint and clear coats will make it look nicer.

Cheers

Hey, for the valence dont bother just put it behind it look nice that way. For the upper one you can make 2 separates grills that fit each side between the divider or if there is room to hide the edge of the grills just make one and appose it on top covering the divider but you really can make it both ways it's up to you, for the look I prefer having the grill covering those little lines for the upper one and for the valence it'S nicer behind the bumper. Just my 2 cents.

Cheers

I used tiny galvanized wire to attach the valence from the inside of bumper, it's easier to remove the splash guard and twist the wire from underneath the car.
