Radio Reception ?
Radio Reception ?
I have a 2k max w/ a sony xplode 52x4 unit and a fm modulated changer. For some reason, I get barely any reception from the FM channels (not sure about AM becuase i dont listen to it). Does any one know how i can fix this problem or maybe is their a such thing as an antenna booster???? PLEASE HELP!

there have been a million threads on this
OK... I know i am the man when it comes to electronics! EVERY aftermarket radio has a blue wire comming from its harness. Also, every after market harness has a blue wire as well that says "POWER ANTENNA" on it. Of course the 5th gen maxima, does not have an power antenna. So there fore, the blue wire on the radio which is for pwr antenna and the blue wire on harness which is for pwr antenna need to be connected. I dont know why they need to be connected sice maximas dont have a power antenna, but IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM NOW!
BTW-A pic is up top in this thread that shows the 2 "blue's" connected.

which brings us to my question
In another post I asked where the vertical antenna is in the 2k2 Maxima. I have identified 3 antennas in the back glass but cannot find the vertical one. (In my understanding required for diversity operation) Is there any other electronics associated with the antenna system?
you are SO the man! it worked! the whole time, 6 months, and i had no radio. i even bought some ****ty fm booster that blew fuses all the time and made everything mono. the whole time it was right under my nose. well, thanks so much! you should create a new post titled FM RECEPTION FIX for everyone to see
the reason to attach the blue to the blue is that there is two antennas in the maxima. Both which are amplified. There is one in the front and one in back, usauall the back one take gets the most reseption. It sounds wierd, but by connecting the powe amp cable it gives power to that amp which the back antenna thrives for. I had the same problem.
yeah..
diversity antennas are powered. I've actually read that fix here before. I dont know why search wont return it, it might be older than a year and search wont pick it up. nonetheless, good work getting it worked out and taking the time to tell everyone about it.

I started a thread in the audio & electronics forum and someone suggested something similar to this but when I asked which wire they were talking about specifically they never responded. As weird as it sounds it makes sense & THANK YOU!

Okay, I hate to bring an OOOOOOOOOOOOLD thread back from the zombie grave, but I got me a prob here. I actually connected the blue wires with my aftermarket HU and the reception was stock perfect...... that is until I touched the exposed wire to another misc wire and from then on my reception was back to crap. Didnt matter if I disconected and reconnected the blue wires.. it was just crap. Any ideas on what to do now? Has there been other fixes since then?
And or God's sake, no "SEARCH POLICE".. I've already done so, which is what led me here and why I'm asking. Thanks in advance guys.

Most likely, when the wires you discussed crossed, they shorted and blew a fuse. First, check all the fuses in your fuse box. If memory serves, the Maxima has a dual amplified antenna setup. Hopefully nothing shorted out.
Also, check the antenna coupler that goes into the back of the radio. They are generally pretty sturdy, but it is possible that they can pop out.
Good luck

Thanks, appreciate the help. Checking fuses was my next move (going through each one was a pain since there is no "Antenna/power ant." fuse. However, after driving around a bit, Reception came in perfectly. Weiiiiirrd but if I remeber correctly, my stock setup acted liek that in my driveway also.
ur radio works but mine is somewat staticy on the fm channels it started happening after i installed my amp.... anyone might know wat might be causing that problem.?
So... this is a common problem?
When I replaced my "Bose" unit with a Panasonic, I just got an OEM amp adapter, OEM antenna adapter, and PAC SWI-X steering wheel audio adapter. It was a simple matter of plug and play and everything worked on the first try. Now I have an aftermarket head unit using the stock amp and speakers, the stock antenna, and the stock steering wheel audio controls. No static on AM or FM.
Btw... if you're wondering why I used adapters for the OEM amp and speakers instead of upgrading my whole audio system, it's because I'm not one of those audiophiles who is out to build a monster system. I was merely looking for a quick, easy, inexpensive way to replace my crappy Bose/Clarion unit (I had the left side cutout problem).

By the way...
Here's a link to the antenna adapter I used to make my stock window antenna work with an aftermarket head unit. Very simple, very effective.
Works like a charm...

I am going to add to this thread revival because one of my first posts on the .org was asking for help with my radio. My my pioneer deck I could only get FM channels. I was told to not worry about AM and just get satellite radio. I already had XM but I could not listen to my Green Bay games the last two years. Well I just did this, connected my two blue wires, and guess what? I have my AM back. This was an incredibly easy fix and if you guys are having a drop in antenna quality, gives these two wires a check!!
THANKS TO Igor911
YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!

Can somebody please help???? I attempted to solve my reception problem by connecting some blue wires only to find out that I have nothing disconnected! Am I missing something?? Or should I try something else?? thanks...
Was sent here from diyma forums for this question. This is the post:

I have been searching and tried your fixes but no improvement on reception.
Power antenna wire attached
Tried reversing antenna adapter, nothing.
The story;
My closest friend got a 2003 maxima titanium edition and asked me to hook him up with a nice system. So of course I did for fun and because hes my friend.
All he had was a zapco studio 300x and gave me a budget of under 600 for all.
I got the alpine 9887
seas neo textiles
illusion luccent 6.5s
Alto mobile 4 channel(75x4) fullrange class d
and I gave him one of my temporary enclosures with a ed 11k I wasnt using which his zapco powers. But I finished it up nice for him with fleckstone.
Wiring harness and master sheet from crutchfield.
Came to just over 500 with wiring I had laying around.
Well the install is all wired up well and sounds pretty good but for the life of me, I can not get any radio signal. This maxima has the dual diversity antenna and I believe I got the right antenna adapter from crutchfield. Cds and ipod works great but he loves radio so hes disappointed and stated he would never have gone through this if he knew it would result in no radio. Which kinda annoys me because I got him a very nice system for cheap, spent the weekend installing it for free and he doesnt appreciate it because the lack of radio just ruins it for him. Plus I wanted to blow him away with the best system he ever had.
I asked a couple maxima people here and they stated they did not have radio reception either. I called crutchfield and was informed there is an antenna booster I have to tap into with the pwr antenna lead and I had some hope. Well I tapped into it and still nothing but static.
Then I read the posts here and I made sure I did tap into the power antenna booster and still have no improvement. Reveresed the antenna adapter and no improvement.
Im at a loss here and Ive installed many systems just never a maxima with the dual diversity antenna.

Wow, this is an old thread.
There should be SOME reception. It will not be as great as it was before because Nissan's dual diversity antenna (2) is reduced to 1 with the antenna adapter, essentially reducing reception.
