Should I buy these speakers?

They are $100, which is $80 less than what Crutchfield sells them for. Anybody have any experience with these new Pioneers? I want to keep the stock deck/amp, so I am hoping that there is enough power there to push these....

Pioneer's "REV" Series speakers are styled with compact car enthusiast flair — check out the spoked silver grilles that simulate aluminum alloy racing wheels! The TS-D170R 6-3/4" speakers are definitely meant to be seen and admired, but flashy looks are only part of the story here.

The 6-3/4" Aramid fiber composite woofer cones, modeled after the IASCA S/Q Competition PRS Series speakers, are lightweight and extremely rigid for fast, accurate low-frequency response. A durable butyl rubber surround guides cone travel for more accuracy.

The laminated polyester soft dome tweeter has a rear damping chamber that extends midrange response and helps project clean, clear highs. Sculpted flanges on the tweeter lens act as "wave guides," controlling the dispersion pattern for wider sweet-spot imaging.

I want to avoid components because they sound like are a waste of money without an amp. Plus the hassle of the crossover, potential engine noise, etc.... I just want to plug and play.

Ok i guess u wanna keep stock head and amp.. you have bose or regular stereo? if you have bose new speakers will sound blah since they are 4ohm and stock are like 1... You will notice very little difference hooking those speakers up to the weak stock head.. you will really need aftermarket head and amps to push the speakers ur looking at and while ur at it might as well get some components.... Hey you go to ASU too??

No, I don't. I like the look of the stock head unit. I definitely don't want to go there. One of my mids is blown and I need to replace them.

From what I understand, the stock unit isn't COMPLETE crap.... Obviosly even a crappy $150 Aiwa deck would be better, but I refuse to mess with the dashboard of this car.

You in AZ?

I have actually had a few insane stereos in my old cars. I had an entire Infinity Kappa system with the 202a and the 54a, 4 10"s, all Kappa components (which blew like crazy, by the way- I always had one missing speaker in my car because it was in the process of being repaired or replaced).

My Ford Probe had a JL 15W6 and a Hifonics amp that ROCKED.

After having multiple break ins, rattling door panels, and a hole in my wallet, I have firmly decided to hang up my wire cutters and keep it simple. Plug and play. I have one 12" Punch, which came with the car. That's it.

My system is actually pretty simple.. I only dropped about 1500 total on it but the difference above stock is amazing...

Hmmmm. Install kits have certainly changed from the looks of that pic. Is that custom? Back when I sold car stereos at Best Buy, all we had available were cheesy black kits. Is the contouring the same as the rest of the dash? That would drive me insane if it wasn't.

Maybe I might rethink this afterall..... But I would end up having to rewire my sub and Bose.....

Alright I just ordered those speakers for the front and I will get some decent tweets for the pillars. After seeing that dash kit, I may have to go buy myself a new deck too now..... See how fickle I am?

Does anyone out there know if it is possible to just replace the stock speakers with aftermarket and not trplace the head unit? Sure would like to know because I'll probably buy another car b4 the year is up. Even if headunit is crap(it really is), I'm not interested in replacing them. I have a set of 6.5 Boston Acoustics Component Sets from my last car. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I went to ASU- I graduated in 99. 1 ohm? the Bose? Are you serious? Nawwww.......

Yes, I have the Bose system, but in the 2K, I was under the impression that all "Bose" signified was theaddition of a super crappy sub and the name "Bose" on the clarion deck.... Right? I think the weird Bose setup stopped in 4th gen.......

I stuck mine on the little black triangle adjacent to the side mirror.. it would have been a ton more work to get it in the pillar only like 5 inches away... I also have boston comps

Nah its still a wierd **** setup.. i tried wiring amps to the stock speakers and blew a transistor because of the low impendance.. take a look at the stock bose amp and u will realize there is no 200 watts coming out of that 5 oz amp under a 4 ohm load.. it needs like .5 ohm to make that power. I eventually got so sick of it i ripped out everything with the bose name on it.

I am trying to upgrade the stock bose system myself. What if i keep the shead unit, put rockford fosgate components in the front, 5 and quarter in the rear, 2 crunch amps, 2 audiobahn subs. And a pioneer equalizer. Even with all of this good equipment how will it sound with the stock head unit.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ............................................

Wiring amps is one thing....plug and play on speakers is another. I just want a simple swap. I am pleased with the sound other than the fact that they are blown.
