photo radar license plate cover- at the flip of a switch?

Is there any way to create some sort of device that when you push a button in the cabin, a piece of some sort of plastic/cloth rolls down to cover your rear plate? We have photo radar here and you have ample time after the first pic is taken to do something like this.

I was trying to draw up some sort of schematic for this. A couple of relays and an actuator would do the trick. But what material to use??

And I already have one of those photo rader plastic license plate covers, but they are highly illegal. This would just rest over the top of the plate and roll down over it when I flip the switch. I don't want it to be too noticable during everyday driving.

Any engineers out there? Azhelipilot? Got any thoughts?

Ha Ha

OK Bond! It would prolly be easier to devise a flip license plate like James Bond had then to have something that rolls down over the plate.

Of course, I'd never advocate doing such a thing, but they make this glass for bathrooms, that has an LCD sandwich. When you apply voltage to it, it turns opaque... Stuff is outrageously expensive, too.

Heh. Obstruction is Obstuction. Intentional obscuring of your plate is probably an illegal offense in every jurisdiction in the free world. Probably worse, since you're denying the local government revenue...

Why bother? You can't read it anyway!

How about this idea (not that I advocate breaking the law )
How about installing some sort of bright light above your plate. You can flip it on and blind the camera.

Can we say strobe light?

That might have other "good" uses, such as detering tailgaters.

Hmmmmmm. What type of light would obstruct it? I would think that it would only help make it readable. Plus the flash that the camera uses is REALLY bright.

I love this idea if it would work. Much easier to install too.

They have it in doctors offices and stuff. Their window was over $50,000 if I am not mistaken.

Also, I just thought of something. Since we have the license plate on the trunk lid, couldn't I jerry rig some sort of Inspector Gadget hyper-trunk popper? It would make the trunk fly all the way open and stay open. I could pull over at the next corner and close it.....

Or what about a simple Spy Hunter smoke screen? Where could I get some sort of fast acting electronic fogger?

Maybe the strobe light is the best idea......

Haha we got rid of the van cams here in Hawaii. Too many people protesting and its gone. There is this thing called the blur! It’s like that material that is on those hologram baseball cards. You put it over your license plate. When they take the picture all that shows up is a blur! Hence the name! I will get you the website.

How do you know if in fact you will get ticketed by one of these things besides knowing that you are going over the speed limit. Will you see some sort of flash or something. The other day I was driving and there is this turn that when I am about to corner I step on it cause I love taking that turn at higher speeds (fun). I had to slow down really fast cause I saw radar there. I was going 45 on a 35 and the numbers kept decreasing, obviously i was braking hard but too bad I didn't reach 35 mph by the time I passed it. So is it noticeable or more obvious that it got a picture of me speeding. I was thinking about doing something to blur the picture that these things take.

Don't some companies already make plate covere that block the view of the number from the side and like when a picture is taken. it'd like a piece of lexan with a hologram molded into the center. If they were illegal wouldn't the government stop them from selling them. Hell, they advertise them in the back of pretty much very car magazine.

Totally illegal and a great excuse for a cop to pull you over. Selling them is okay. But using them isn't. Kinda like bongs and cable black boxes.

You will see the first flash go off (the pic of your face). the second flash comes 4-10 seconds later. That is the one that gets the license plate. During the day you can usually see the van, but by that time it is too late to slow down.

I once slammed my brakes and stopped directly next to the van (literally) after havimg the first pic taken. I made a u-turn (cutting across three lanes) and went the other way. I never saw a ticket.

There's gotta be a way to rig up some bungee cords in the trunk for that.

I've been dreaming of the same thing you're talking about, ever since I turned 16. Obviously something that covers/conceals the license plate is illegal, but could be used in so many situations!!
What I was thinking of, is to actually modify the license plate holder area. So that it will either flip over, or another body-colored piece will come down(or up) and cover it.
I have heard of one guy doing it, some lowrider dude. He used two wiperblade motors, and made it so his rear license plate would rotate. But it would only flip about 90 degrees, so it would basically be lying horizontally...if that makes any sense...Kind of hard to explain.

i got and easy solution for u about this one, how about this if and when u and ur girl get married, put the max under her name and u drive it, and put her car in ur name. that way if u get ur pic taken driving the max u wont have to care since its under her name, shes just gonna have to go to court and say she doesnt know who it was and that it wasnt her (considering that ur a guy, they wont argue and say it looks like her) ive never heard of any1 having a probelms with this so.... i guess i found another advantage of being married

There is a company that has the license plate covers that are like the holograms on baseball cards. Check out the Bavarian website, these are parts for BMW's... they have the plate in their catalog. Check it out. My friend has it on his 328i. Where are these BMW guys when you need them?

That's jokes; there was a guy up here who found a way out of paying for toll highways (they take a picture of your plate on your way in and out). How did he do it? Well, it was a jeep and he had the license plate attached to a fishing rod As he pulled under the camera, he would reel it in

license cover

THey actually have covers you can put over your license plate. I found some when i was looking for a radar scrambler. THey are clear so not illegal but when a picture is taken of them it distorts the numbers so it is not readalbe.

Illegal. You cannot read the plate when you are standing off to the side.

It's hard to observe the rules when you have a Y-Pipe. Vroom vroom.

Rules were made to be broken.

What if I were to be able to replace the two screws that hold the plate in with some sort of air compressed/hydraulic spring, that when a switch gets flipped, it completely blows your license plate forward...the bottom of the plate would be on door hinges, so the plate would be sticking out, facing down....

I remmember a Civic I saw at HIN, it had a plate on hinges and behind the plate, built into the car, were about 12 Flashbulbs that were capable of going off when the plate droped. Nifty, no?
"Now that's what I call flashing"....uh or not.

I actually saw one of these the other day.

Some POS Taurus had a blown head gasket. Didn't stop this guy from driving around, though. Made a white fog like you wouldn't believe.

So, all you gotta do is dump coolant directly into your cylinders...

I was thinking bout this the other day driving on the GA 400. How fast you think you'd have to go for the pictures taken not to get the license plate? Just curious, I'm sure it's some insane speed, and not really worth the trouble.
