photo radar license plate cover- at the flip of a switch?
photo radar license plate cover- at the flip of a switch?
Is there any way to create some sort of device that when you push a button in the cabin, a piece of some sort of plastic/cloth rolls down to cover your rear plate? We have photo radar here and you have ample time after the first pic is taken to do something like this.
I was trying to draw up some sort of schematic for this. A couple of relays and an actuator would do the trick. But what material to use??
And I already have one of those photo rader plastic license plate covers, but they are highly illegal. This would just rest over the top of the plate and roll down over it when I flip the switch. I don't want it to be too noticable during everyday driving.
Any engineers out there? Azhelipilot? Got any thoughts?

Heh. Obstruction is Obstuction. Intentional obscuring of your plate is probably an illegal offense in every jurisdiction in the free world. Probably worse, since you're denying the local government revenue...

How about installing some sort of bright light above your plate. You can flip it on and blind the camera.

That might have other "good" uses, such as detering tailgaters.

I love this idea if it would work. Much easier to install too.

Also, I just thought of something. Since we have the license plate on the trunk lid, couldn't I jerry rig some sort of Inspector Gadget hyper-trunk popper? It would make the trunk fly all the way open and stay open. I could pull over at the next corner and close it.....

Haha we got rid of the van cams here in Hawaii. Too many people protesting and its gone. There is this thing called the blur! It’s like that material that is on those hologram baseball cards. You put it over your license plate. When they take the picture all that shows up is a blur! Hence the name! I will get you the website.
How do you know if in fact you will get ticketed by one of these things besides knowing that you are going over the speed limit. Will you see some sort of flash or something. The other day I was driving and there is this turn that when I am about to corner I step on it cause I love taking that turn at higher speeds (fun). I had to slow down really fast cause I saw radar there. I was going 45 on a 35 and the numbers kept decreasing, obviously i was braking hard but too bad I didn't reach 35 mph by the time I passed it. So is it noticeable or more obvious that it got a picture of me speeding. I was thinking about doing something to blur the picture that these things take.

Don't some companies already make plate covere that block the view of the number from the side and like when a picture is taken. it'd like a piece of lexan with a hologram molded into the center. If they were illegal wouldn't the government stop them from selling them. Hell, they advertise them in the back of pretty much very car magazine.

You will see the first flash go off (the pic of your face). the second flash comes 4-10 seconds later. That is the one that gets the license plate. During the day you can usually see the van, but by that time it is too late to slow down.
I once slammed my brakes and stopped directly next to the van (literally) after havimg the first pic taken. I made a u-turn (cutting across three lanes) and went the other way. I never saw a ticket.

What I was thinking of, is to actually modify the license plate holder area. So that it will either flip over, or another body-colored piece will come down(or up) and cover it.
I have heard of one guy doing it, some lowrider dude. He used two wiperblade motors, and made it so his rear license plate would rotate. But it would only flip about 90 degrees, so it would basically be lying horizontally...if that makes any sense...Kind of hard to explain.

There's even a quote form. There are probably other companies that make the stuff, I just haven't looked. (Although the Sun/Moon roof application they suggest might be a cool idea...)

Bullet Proof Security Glass.... Yeah I better get some fo my max when I'm cruzin through the ghetto, don't wanna get shot-up.
There is a company that has the license plate covers that are like the holograms on baseball cards. Check out the Bavarian website, these are parts for BMW's... they have the plate in their catalog. Check it out. My friend has it on his 328i. Where are these BMW guys when you need them?

That's jokes; there was a guy up here who found a way out of paying for toll highways (they take a picture of your plate on your way in and out). How did he do it? Well, it was a jeep and he had the license plate attached to a fishing rod
As he pulled under the camera, he would reel it in

license cover
THey actually have covers you can put over your license plate. I found some when i was looking for a radar scrambler. THey are clear so not illegal but when a picture is taken of them it distorts the numbers so it is not readalbe.

Rules were made to be broken.
What if I were to be able to replace the two screws that hold the plate in with some sort of air compressed/hydraulic spring, that when a switch gets flipped, it completely blows your license plate forward...the bottom of the plate would be on door hinges, so the plate would be sticking out, facing down....

Some POS Taurus had a blown head gasket. Didn't stop this guy from driving around, though. Made a white fog like you wouldn't believe.
So, all you gotta do is dump coolant directly into your cylinders...
