2001 AE wheel problem

I was wondering if anyone has had any problem with the finish on their 17" AE wheels? My step mother's have developed what looks like blotches on the finish. It's almost like they are corroding under the paint. She never used them in the winter.Look in Car Pics. http://ca.photos.yahoo.com/cooper302002]2001 Ae rims [/URL]

I noticed this on my moms wheels on her chrysler town and country limited (chrome wheels) and I think its from not cleaning the wheels, anyway just get a sos pad and take your time gettin it off, it took me an hour... good luck gettin it off.

AAAAHhhhh!!! Don't use an SOS pad!!!!!

That chromish finish will rub right off and expose the aluminum underneath. Even worse, there is a layer of black between the two that will show up all around the edges where you rubbed it off.

I scraped a curb with mine and there is no way to clean it up, it gets worse if you try to polish it up.

I might try using silver model paint to cover the black, but I can't see any way to buff it or polish it.

SOS is WAYYYYY too abrasive for a polish of ANY kind. It's like taking a grinder to it. Simple green is about as hardcore as I would get. But they are heat marks, I think. Do a search. This was posted earlier this week. Search "marks wheels" in 5th gen.

Wooahh. Just looked at your pic. I've never seen that before. That should be a warranty issue for sure. It looks like it has ringworm. Has your wheel been washing its hands before dinner?

I think the washing issue hits the problem on the head. She doesn't clean them near as often as she should. I also blame them for storing the wheels in the barn stacked one on top of the other in tire bags.( moisture ?) I doubt if they were cleaned before they were put away either. They always make fun of me for storing mine in a heated basement. Anyway now she's mad at me for pointing her toward the maxima. One drive in my 2000 Se and she was hooked. There's worse things than your step mother not talking to you though !!
