Oh geez....here it goes. I was reading the latest issue of Car and Driver this evening and I think they got a 14.6 or so out of the CL-S in a comparison test against a 330ci. The Bimmer managed a 14.4 which seems really good for that car.

Wow....why all this hostility? I mean we are maxima enthusiasts but its nice to know that other cars we often compare ourselves to have time close, and in this case better, than ours. I guess I need to find a nice day to head to the track again....

Yes but his thread label was sooo misleading, and I assumed it was a 03 Maxima and was all gilly with joy, "Oh boy," I said to myself "I must buy me a 2003 Maxima!" but sadly it was not, it was just a stupid Honda. blah, blah, blah MOMMEY!!!!!!

Hrm I need to get that guy to drive my car!

All in all though, you guys are taking this too seriously. Some cars are faster, some are not. As the CL-S was getting around the same trap speeds that I was, it gives me faith that my car is capable of much better times.

Hasn't the torque in the 3.5 VQ been significantly underrated?

Honda may be neck in neck with us but they will never be able to develop the muscular punch down low that the VQ has.

Anybody notice his 60ft time?

2.181 - Looks like this guy knows how to drive. Good driver + fast car = fast times. Also remember, he took out his spare and all other obvious weight and ran on about 3 gallons of 100 octane. I have no doubt in my mind that with a good driver and similar circumstances, our cars can get similar times.

I still believe a race between the CL 6speed and Max 6speed it is 100% on the driver.

Apples to Oranges

you are comparing a two door to a four door. When the TL posts those times come back and post, until then we will see how it does against the G35 Coupe, which in turn will be about 2 grand more than CL, which is about what the Acura is more than the Max.

Actually, G35 sedans are running slower than my max, and as far as CL-s VS a 6 speed goes, youre right. Its a driver thing !

I'm not one to mag race, but.....

Road and Track got a 14.7@94mph out of a stock G35 in their most recent issue (btw, G35 won that comparo ). So, actually the G35 is faster than your modded auto.

That guy appears to be one hell of a driver with such a low 60 ft time in a car that has less torque than us. All that coupled with the fact that he says it was hot and humid only goes to show that 90% of it is driver skill.

The only CL-S I ever raced was a 2001 automatic. He was stock and so was I. I got a 14.3 to his 15.5, so yeah, I blew his doors off, but I'm sure the new 6spds will give me a run for my money.

Agreed, but I'm mainly addressing Kloogys point that his Max is faster than the G35. Ofcourse the TL-S ran a 14.7 in that issue as well. Hmmmm. Now come to think of it, I was reading Car and Driver and a CL-S 6spd ran a 14.6 and a BMW 330i coupe ran a 14.4!!!! Those are the best numbers I've seen on any of those cars. Considering that the testing of these cars probably occurred at least two to three months ago it would mean that they were run in March or April. Temp and humidity were much lower then.

Actually, it was a 14.7@95.2mph.

Also, we all know how mag numbers compare to track numbers with someone who doesn't give a rats *** about beating their car up. I saw a S4 do 13.5@100+mph(mags 14.1@98.3mph), but his clutch was smoked and he had to have a tow truck come pick it up. Still had paper dealer plates on it.

Also, notice the G35's 5-speed auto has to shift into 4th gear before the end of the 1/4-mile, which adds a tenth or so.

Id care a lot more if I could afford a cl-s. Its nice they make it in a 6sp too. I dont care how fast it is ever since my 1st car , a 90' integra 5sp, I have been an avid auto hater. (unless its got a 4" lift and a wench) Its really not that hard to learn how to drive a stick.

Why do you think that's relevant here?

Again, the Maxima is NOT in the same lineup as an Acura CL/TL especially the -S. It's quite flattering and a COMPLEMENT that you, Russ, and others compare them to the Maxima, which can be had for SEVERAL THOUSAND LESS. Even if the Acura is superior, it's AWESOME that the Max can be held in its lime-light as a competitor when it really is NOT.

The lineup for Infinity vs. Acura comparing apples to apples(aka auto to auto and manual to manual):
------------------------------------------------
1)TL-S auto = G35 SEDAN auto
2)CL-S auto = G35 COUPE auto(once available)
3)CL-S 6-speed = G35 COUPE 6-speed(once available)

For the Maxima it's:
1)Camry V6 5-speed = Maxima 6-speed = Altima V6 5-speed
2)Camry V6 Accord V6 auto = Maxima auto = Altima V6 auto

So if your that interested in "sharing info" that is relevant for a purpose other than to start ****, why don't you go find a G35, IS300, Audi A4, BMW 330i, Cadillac CTS, Jaguar X-Type, Lincoln LS, Mercedes-Benz C320, Saab 9-5 Aero, or Volvo S60 T5 board? They would at least be a comparable opponent according to Road&Track.

BTW, Road&Track(July 2002) just did a nice little comparo with the G-35 sedan and guess who won even over the infamous BMW330i(only because the BMW costed $7699 extra), that's right, the G35 with an AUTO transmission. All but the G35, TL-S, and C320 had manual transmissions and the G35 only lost in performance to the BMW(actually tied in the 1/4-mile and skidpad). Also, the TL-S got 6th.

The ONLY reason the Acura boys come over to the Maxima board is because they are scared of the G35 coupe AND sedan in auto OR manual form.

Absolutely! Ofcourse one could say that the I35 competes with Acura TL/CL, but who cares....

Every review I read of the G35 I read gets better and better. I drove one recently and it far surpassed my lofty expectations. I hope to get my car paid off in another 1.5 years or so and get something like a G35 sedan in a 6spd by then. Ofcourse who knows what will be out from competing marques in almost two years.

this guy hits a 14.1@94??? looks like all 60 foot time to me. my guess is the average driver wont be cutting 2.1s with a v6/6 speed.
