Improving FM radio reception

I saw a post about improving radio reception with aftermarket stereos. But is there a way to get better reception with our stock system?

Thanks.

The 5th gens already have an antenna amplifier. You could try installing a second one in series with the stock one?

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. The most significant factor in this case is the first amplifier's noise level which determines whole system sensitivity. It doesn't matter how much you amplify signal after that since it won't change signal to noise ratio. To make long story short: if you can find antenna preamplifier with better S/N ratio than stock and put it right after antenna - you'd improve overall sensitivity.

I'm having the same problem with an 05 3.5 maxima I just purchased with the bose system. Reception OK in town but as soon as I drive 5 -10 mi out of town the reception goes to crap. I have to wait till I get to the next decent sized town to pick up anything. Is this a common problem w/ maxima? Any solutions??

Great 3 posts. Probably one of the quicker perma-bans on the forum.
