Prioritize Mods Here Please!

So I've had my 2K2 for 3 weeks now, and have enough cash to start on the mods. My question is, what order should I do them in? So far I have paid and received just the Berk (gotta love sales). Ideas? Thanks in advance!

1) Maintenance (synthetic fluids)
2) Handling (FSTB, RSB, struts, lowering springs, new tires, 18" rims)
3)Performance (intake, exhaust flow, SC, NOS, torque converter for autos, gauges)
4)Looks (lighting, dash kit, leather, body kit)

Depending on your requirements, maybe start with the audio\electronics system.

3M ClearGuard it quick! Before the first stone comes hurtling at it to chip the paint! You'll be glad you did.

well if you got ALOT of cash, start with something big like an SC, kit, rims, or something. Also depends if u want looks or performance first. Otherwise follow Tanmann's suggestion.

Save your money and put it in a "gas fund". Cuz you will be needing it to drive back and forth to the dealer to get your Recalls handled. J/K I suggest go lighting first, nothing looks worse than three different color headlight bulbs. I have already replaced my parking light and am waiting on the fogs to come in.

1. Change all bulbs to Xenon & LED's
2. Frankencar ( Biggest performance gain of all so far !)
3. Muffler, or full Cat back ( Im waiting for Frankencar for my Catback )
4. Springs
5. FSTB
6. RSB ( By this time your suspension will feel 200% better !)
7. Wheels & Tires
8. Headers and Y pipe, if they ever come out for the 2K2 ! ......

Well, there's no SC for the 2K2, so if you're starting big, go with rims. A body kit will make you want to get new struts and lowering springs, which is a waste of decent stock struts on your new car. Even if the SC was available, I wouldn't get it first because then you gotta think about synthetic fluids, tranny cooler, vb mod, new clutch, handling mods to handle the power, gauges, fuel pump, etc, etc. You have to get these other mods in a short span after the SC, or you'll risk messing up your car.

3M clear bra....having one put on as we speak at the body shop (where the front bumper is being refinished due to bug stains and paint chips... )
Suspension mods....its fair to say that our cars have ample power stock so do the rear sway and FSTB first. Both are fairly inexpensive.
Power....intake, pulleys, etc, etc, etc

5. FSTB
6. RSB ( By this time your suspension will feel 200% better !)

Yeah, I'm thinkin those two next. I put clears in on the front side markers, left the back red, I think it looks fine with my Majestic Blue paint. As for the 3M, I am using the MagnetBra, and it's working great, the bumper I can handle getting paint chips, as I will get an aftermarket front eventually. As for the intake, the Berk from what I have read is good for the money, and as for the exhaust, that is where I get tripped up. So many options, it makes my head spin.

I agree....handling should come before performance.

btw, stick with conventional untill ur car is fully broken-in...then switch to synthetic motor oil

No real need to mess with the exhaust just yet, especially the muffler. It's a pretty good muffler and your money could be better spend on other mods.

I say keep it simple, do an audio change, such as HU and speakers, maybe some subs and amps, and definilty the lighting. Take it easy and make sure what you want first, then go from there. Don't just jump into modding you ride because everyone else is doing it. Remember this is your ride, everyone sees you in it. If you jump at something too soon, it may look like a little out of place. It is like a fine peice of art work. or like building a house, plan...plan...plan!

Very well said. Why would others suggest he get new rims on a brand new 25K plus ride that already has 17's? that is just baffling. I think there is plenty of other mods he could do with $1,500 he would spend on rims and tires, besides aside from the rain, the RE92's, when new, are good tires. Look I am not trying to start a flame war and more power to anyone who has SC or invested 10 to 20 thousand in their rides but if you want to dump that much in a brand new Max you should have bought something else, IE: G35 Coupe, 350Z, the new Evo when it comes out, maybe a new Cobra, etc...

I agree.. for about $1500 he can do Clearguard, lights, FSTB, RSTB, intake, catback (if he thinks he really needs to - if not, a lot of other things).

Rims and tires should be early on in the mod process. That let's others know your car isn't fully stock. The other stuff is fine, but since he has a relatively new 2K2, he has plenty of power and refinement. The FSTB and RSB are useful if you drive aggressively through corners and turns or at high speeds, but for everyday driving, new 18" rims and tires are the best idea. If you don't have the Bose audio system, I'd upgrade the head unit and add an amp and sub.

For autos only, I think it transfers power from the tranny to the wheels. You can upgrade the TC with one from ProTorque... obvious gains are more torque, better launches. Costs about $400 plus installation charges.

I thought it was bad to switch from conventional to synthetic or vice-versa? If not, why wait until it's broken in? (This is not an opinion, I'm asking b/c I don't know)...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Prioritize Mods Here Please!

ok....I was told also. I was buying oil for my first oil change and the manager from the parts store told me that if I have a brand new vehicle and the engine is still within break-in period, using synthetic would not help the engine to be broken in properly. syn oil is very slick and will protect a fully broken-in engine. but for a brand new engine, you should give it sometime and let it go thru the break-in period in order to achieve the max performance, then protect it with syn oil. early protection doesnt mean it is a good protection. There are many vehicles that comes with synthetic oiled engine. but I believe the pre-run the engine prior to putting the car together in order to break-in engine (BMW, Mercedez). But not our Max and that's another reason that why I would stay with dino for now and switch later. (or maybe that's another reason that nissan cut costs on building Maximas)

well, this is just what the manager and others told me. I bought it....and I am still using dino oil @ 27k. I am not looking for the best protection b/c I dun take my car to tracks or do any extreme driving often. I am looking for an "adaquate" protection towards my engine.

alright....that's my 2cent, hope I wont start a war on engine oil here.

I agree too handling is a must before performance! Then up the ante on your performance!

Here's my tentative order of mods:

1.) Buy 2K2 Max in the next month
2.) Clear lenses / Lighting
3.) Install my Basslink (maybe my HU and speakers too)
4.) Mirror Tint
5.) FSTB
6.) RSB
7.) Springs/Struts or Coilover Sleeves/Struts
8.) Remove Resonator
9.) Get 19" rims next summer (I live in Seattle where it rains 75% of
the year)

*Whew* Then we'll see...if I'm not bankrupt by then
