225-45-17 is good too, better handling, stiffer sidewall. Your speedo may be very SLIGHTLY off, but you'll live.

It'll be a challenge to find this tire with the same or even more load rating than the std re92 which is 93.
I just purchase a set from tirerack and the only one that I can buy is 235/50/17 pilot a/s (load rating is 96)for $212 a piece no tax but $45 shipping using fedex 3 days select.

no more 225/50/17 available for the same tire because michelin has non in stock and they'll start manufacturing again in a week or 2 but it won't be in the market until august.

Costco give me a deal for mount/balance/rotate/disposal fee/road hazard for $10.07 per wheel. so It's still cheaper than going through
discount tire. Not much but cheaper.
can't wait for my new tires.....

by the way where is Y2kSE?

later

God I love being missed!

You guys know where the tire industry and I stand regarding 235/45R17 tires on 7.0" wide rims. I'm not going to beat that dead horse again here, particularly as most of you appear to be willing to make intelligent decisions. Moving right along . . .

You'd have been all right with 225/45R17 tires, exunaja. Most of them carry a 91 load rating. That's the minimum acceptable load rating for a 2K Maxima according to your Owner Manual. But your ride would have been MUCH, MUCH stiffer than it will be with the 235/50R17s. And you wouldn't have liked the fender gap either.

I think you'll be pleased with the 235/50R17s when you get them mounted. Take pics when you get them mounted and let us see what they look like on your car.

I'll take pictures and pictures..
oh one more thing, the people at Costco try to sell me .. guess what..
235/45/17.. they show me their database screen and it does show maxima y2k se with 17 options and they say yes you can mount 235/45/17 ...
hei Y2kSe.. a hint.. for you.... go get them too, if you want to have fun... that's some idea for your weekend project.

Can't wait.. I went from $400 budget to a $1000..

Amazing. Once again it proves the old adage:

NEVER . . . I MEAN NEVER . . . TRUST A TIRE DEALER ABOUT TIRE SPECS. ALWAYS CHECK THE MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS ON THEIR WEB SITE BEFORE YOU BUY.

Problem is, the Pilot Sports aren't available in 225/50R17. Only the Pilot Sport A/Ss are.

No contest, K Pazzo 6. If you can afford them, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/Ss win hands down, especially in wet weather.

Right, Will. When you're taking on an entire industry, an industry that knows much more about its products and their safety margins than you do, perhaps the best thing to say is that exceeding those safety margins has worked for you . . . at least so far. I don't care whether people follow your example. That's their business. I only care that they acquaint themselves with the facts before they do.

Has anyone ever known of a 235 tire coming off of a 7" wide rim and if so what were the conditions? Thanks.

I've heard of at least once instance of that happening. Regardless of whether it's happened once or a thousand times, the question I have for those considering running 235/45R17 tires on their 7"-wide rims is very simple: What is your life worth to you? Once again,

NO TIRE MANUFACTURER IN THE WORLD WILL APPROVE RUNNING THEIR 235/45R17 TIRES ON 7"-WIDE RIMS!

Apparently, every tire maker that manufactures 235/45R17 tires feels that a 7.5"-wide rim provides the minimum safety margin for mounting and running their 235/45R17 tires. There isn't a single exception to this rule. Shouldn't that be enough? Or does anyone on this forum actually believe they know more about tire safety than every tire maker in the world?

I agree, jjs. That would be nice. What would be even better is if every time "235/45R17" appeared in a post, the reader would automatically be redirected to the FAQs. But alas, I doubt that will ever happen. So I simply have to continue raising a red flag when people tell others to do as they've done and put their passions ahead of their common sense.

It's amazing what a 50 aspect ratio or higher can do. And while Rubber Manufacturers Association specifications indicate that 245/50R16 tires are in spec on a 6.5"-wide wheel, many manufacturers specify 7.0" as the minimum acceptable rim width for their 245/50R16 tires. Once again, it's prudent to check tire specifications at the manufacturer's web site before you purchase your tires.

ok just got off the phone w/ my girlfriends cousin whos manager @ firestone & he said that he can get me the Michelin Piolt A/S ( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/michel...t_sport_as.jsp ) but they suck in traction...he recommended i go w/ 235/45-17 & get the Potenza S-03 ( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/bridgestone/bs_s03.jsp ) he said these are the best & come stock on the porshe??? I advise him its not recommended going down to that size from what i read here-- he advised me its ok to go 235/45-17 b/c it will even out smaller wall & width? but said if I go 235/50-17 then I might have a problem?? I known him for a good year but dont know if he knows his **** or pull it out of his a$$ this info?? so what do you guys think or you y2kse?

Did you check the Bridgestone web site to see what the minimum acceptable rim width is on Potenza S-03 tires in 235/45R17? (Don't bother. It's 7.5".) Do you think your girlfriend's cousin knows more about acceptable safety margins on Bridgestone tires or do you think Bridgestone does?

If your girlfriend's cousin is willing to stand behind his claims, tell him you want him to state in writing on official Firestone stationery that Bridgestone Potenza S-03s in size 235/45R17 are in spec on 7"-wide rims. Then let's see what he does. BTW, if he actually does give you that letter, fax me a copy. I'll take it up with Firestone corporate.

BTW, I remember someone posting that Costco said it was OK to run 235/45R17 tires on our OEM rims. I just called my local Costco Tire Center and they looked up my car on their computer. (I assume their computer has the same specs as those listed on every other Costco Tire Center computer.) According to the person I spoke with, they don't carry 225/50R17s. The optional tire is a 225/45R17. I asked him specifically if 235/45R17 tires would work instead. He said that 235/45R17s aren't listed as an alternative to the 225/50R17.

Yet another myth dispelled.

Sorry, Tom2891 and Hasoose. The only tires I've heard about in 225/50R17 are the Nitto 450s, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and, of course, the OEM Bridgestone Potenzas RE-92s that nobody seems to like.
