Timing Advancement...

...now this is something i dont know too much about since i dont mess with it. i know that retarding the timing gives u better low end torque, but ive also heard that advancment gives u better high end power. now what i want to know is this, how many degrees of timing could i advance my 2k1 and realisticly what power gains should be expected? and just know, what is the timing advance gonna take away from me in the low end of is there a certain amount that i can advance without losing power anywere else in the powerband. thanx for any info, and please be technical about this no guessing please, i want actual facts.

I don't think anyone in this section cares because the timimg maps are controlled by the ecu. Plus you can't even adjust the base timing yourself because there is only a crank angle sensor.

BTW. Advance timing = good lowend power Retard timing = good higher end power.

You'd probably have to chip the ECU. Timing is all controlled electronically!

with honda/acura cars, u can advance/retard timing without involving the computers...with Maximas...dunno if you can even do this..

there are only a few ecu mods that can be made to the max, i havnet heard any good info about JET around here, level 10 has something similar, and chimps pregramable ecu is the other one. not im not gonna really gonna get into the ecu and mess with things i dont know. but if there was a somewhat simple way to do this i would. so far from what i hear its just too complicated. anyway i was just wondering what other little tweaks i could do to the max to play with its performance, but thanx for the info.

remember when.....

Yes it is all coming back to me now. My first car I would always play with the timing with my timeing light to try to get the best performance. Can't do that now...all computer controlled
