clear coat gurus!!! HELP

Well today I decided to remove the sunroof deflector from my 2k2 max, Sterling Mist, leather just love this car.On my previous Nissan, a '93 Altima, I also removed this attachment and found it melted into the clear coat. The dealer had it repaired at a not so user friendly off site paint shop. So, as I removed this thing today, I can see traces of it still in the clear coat. I tried some polish compound with no luck. I really like the look of the Maxima without this deflector so, Im inclined to get these lines out of the clear coat. Pleeeese tell me how.

I would try claying then and an abrasive something like 3m SMR removal.

You may also want to ask the expert detailers here:

I tried just about everything by hand. I am thinking a buffing machine, which could make matters worse, or just take mine to a body shop.

sorry..

not going to get those lines out without also removing alot of clear. If you notice, they are pretty deep.. I ended up just putting the defector back on. I actually like it, but it would be nice to have a choice in the matter..

I left mine off since I never look at the top of the car and most don't notice it.

As another member stated, your best bet is to try a clay bar and if you want to get frisky, try using 3M FI2 with a rotary buffer. Check out www.autopia-carport.com for more in depth info.
