Just Got Tint

hey i just got 35% tint all around for my max...it looks great. Not too dark and not too subtle. Makes my sterling mist look so much better. Couple of questions...cuz the guy at the place that did it was an ***hole, he didn't answer them. Can i even touch the glass on the inside with my hands or will that ruin it? I know i can't roll down the windows. and How long will it be until its safe to touch? i think he said something like...1-2 weeks...like i said he wasn't very helpful. Anyone with tint run into any problems? Thanks for the input.

Nice.

Let's see some pics man, I just got 20% all around and I am in love with it, but mine is on super black, so it is probably a different look. But congrats bro, enjoy it.

i would say do not roll down for 10 days and don't clean for a month and try to keep your hands from making contact as much as possible

Depends on the weather, if you let it bake in the sun you can get away with 3-4 days. Mine took about that long before i noticed the tint/glass to be clear. I waited a couple more days just to be sure before i first opened my window for cleaning.

As far as touching it goes, of course you can. Just don't apply too much pressure to the point that you smear it around (unlikely, but just play it safe).

Also

If you keep your windows clean from the beginning you really only need warm water and a good quality microfiber tool to clean the inside.

what color interior do u have?

i got a ticket for my front tinted windows this past weekend at night. i was ****ed, but i knew i was at the wrong place at the wrong time. i have 35% all around, but combined with my black interior and night time, it looks a lot darker. so i tried explaining this and the fact that i've never had any problems before to the cop, but all he kept saying was that it was illegal to put any tint on the front windows in california...PERIOD. i wanted to argue but didn't want to risk another ticket for something else on my car.

anyway, sorry for the long post. i ain't removing the tint, but driving at night i'm definitely rolling down my 2 front windows at the sight of any cop. i know most of u guys probably already do it, but after getting a ticket.. gotta take no chances.

btw, anyone know much this ticket is in CA? thx.

hey guys thanks alot for the input. i'm gonna have pics up asap...but seeing as i don't have a digital cameral, it could be awhile...but i didn't know it was better to put it out in the sun. i keep mine garaged when i'm home, but i guess i'll just move it out onto the driveway until the tint is fully sealed.
drudawg,
yea i have black interior too but i hope i can spot any cops in time to roll down my windows. its illegal in NJ too. i love the tint, especially at night cuz it makes the 35% look so much darker, and thank god the sunroof is tinted. now i can finally open the shade thing in the daytime without getting sunburnt.
the guy said for the next few days i'll be seeing bubbles (moisture pockets as he called them) but they will go away. Anyone else experience this. Cuz if they don't go away i'm gonna kill. haha
Thanks everyone.

I got several cars tinted and they told me 3 to 4 days, but that was when I was a student in Tallahassee, FL and during the hot summer months.

3-4 days to let the tint dry in direct sunlight

then wait a month and look for irregularities.....like lint and air pockets

the air pockets he can get rid of ....but the lint....well if you find any..do you have a warranty on the tint job?? here in miami everyone guarantees that it wont bubble or turn purple in your lifetime!!!

When I got my tint done in March, about a week after I got my Max, I had 35% installed on all the side windows, back window and sunroof. That's the legal limit here in OR. The tint shop gave me this nifty little certificate of compliance for the darkness of the windows to keep in the glovebox, just in case I have a run-in with the law. As a side-note, my moisture "bubbles" went away here even in wet OR in about two weeks.

leave you car in the sn, let it dry up the water which cause the bubbles. You should be good to go in a week or so.

DAMN!! hasn't even been a whole day yet, but i accidentally rolled down the windows. i was at a gas station and instinctively rolled em down to talk to the guy. haha i immediately pulled em back up, almost chopped the guys hand off. but it doesn't look like there is any damage to the tint. No scratches or peeling? am i gonna be okay?

I got 15% on my back 3 about a month ago. The day I got it done I found something stuck in my back window and had to take it back 2 weeks later to have them redo the back window. It came out much better the second time but there are a couple little bubbles that look like there is something in them. It may be water but I cant seem to get them to go away. I dont want to be a d*ck and keep taking it back but they did my friends TL-S the same day and it came out perfect.

I just had mine done not 6 weeks ago; here's my two cents & experience. Echoing what was said earlier, letting the car sit in the sun further cures the the film. The installer told me not to roll down the windows for 3-5 days. When mine were rolled down for the first time, there was a problem with them sticking to the point that none of them would come down (or with great difficulty). Back at the installer's, what he did was to use a spray bottle with water and misted the film close to where it contacts the rubber stripping at the top of the track. Then they operated without a hitch. But, because mine stuck, it tended to buckle that rubber stripping. Even though after the interior of the car warmed up and the stripping returned to it's original shape, there was a bit of deformation. Not very noticible at all. My advice is to let it cure in the sun for 3-5, then mist the windows lightly with a water bottle before you lower them the first time. Enjoy!

How much did it cost you to get all the windows done? Also, post some pics so we can see how it looks.

Bubbles...

I got my tint done [20% all around] and after about a month the bubbles did not go away. There are tiny ones in the rear windows (about 10) in each..and about 25 extremely tiny ones in the front windows. Took it back to the tint place and he said he would only do the fronts. It sucks! I called the film manufacturer and they said they only warranty the film from defects not installation problems. The tint shop (formerly Ziebart) said it was common to have the little bubbles.

It's now 3 months later and I've argued my a** off with them..no luck. Oh well..just make sure you check on it and take it to the place if you have problems. Most places should be better than the a**es I dealt with!

yup i got a 5% tint on my sunroof. its much better than the completely clear glass that the max comes with. Didn't see a reason to not get the darkest possible.

I thought about doing that but decided against it. A friend reamed me and said it defeats the purpose of a sunroof. I may wind up doing it in the future but with like 25%. Just something to cut out the glare.
