2k2 6 Spd Engine and Transmission Oils

Hey guys, 15 k on my car and i've finally decided to switch over to mobile one

What viscosity is reccomended that i run on my car? i drive about 200 miles a week and use it all year round. i live in new jersey with temperatures anywhere from -10 to 110+ degrees F. how many quarts would i need to for my car?

Also as per transmission oil, Redline MT-90 has been mentioned a lot... is there varying viscosity for transmission oil? if so what do i use for my car and how many quarts would i need for my car?

thnx in advanced for all the help
btw.. search lead me to eliminate my oil options to mobile 1 and redline.

You can run 5W-30 year round without any problems. For a little more hot weather protection you can use a 10W-30 in the summer, but not in winter. You should buy 5 quarts for each engine oil change.

MT-90 is the correct viscosity and is what you should use in the transmission if you want to use Redline. For other gear oils for the transmission, a 75W-90 GL4 is the correct viscosity. You will need to buy three quarts to ensure you have enough to change the transmission fluid.

I'm curious to hear why your search eliminated Amsoil as a viable option.

Yes, Amsoil does make a transmission oil for the Maxima's special needs (GL-4)...
Here's a good place to start...

The owner's manual says 4.25 qt's. Are you really suggesting 5 during an oil change? I just realized that I didn't add the last 0.25qt's.

And IMHO, using 10W-30 is fine if you live in warmer climates where winter doesnt get too cold. I haven't seen any Mobil1 5W-30 only 10W-30.

I'm suggesting for the first oil change you have 5 quarts on hand to ensure you have enough, especially if it's an oil you can't get at the local auto store. You should always add the last bit of oil slowly and make sure not to overfill it. Chances are that last .25 quarts didn't get drained anyway, so just putting 4 in isn't a nbig deal. If it does drain really well, the fifth quart can be used to add the 1/4 qt., or it can be used if you burn any oil. In any case it doesn't hurt to have it around. Worse case, you only buy three quarts for the next oil change.

No, you really shouldn't use 10W-30 in the winter in that area. It's fine during the summer only.

I've seen the 5W-30 at most discount auto stores and Wal-Mart. It has the blue cap.

why can't people just use what is recommended by the manufacturer? 5W-30 for our cars.

Oils these days especially synthetics are great, and why not use 5w-30 plus the thinner oil will still protect and give better gas milage.

Partly because 10W-30 is approved by Nissan as well. Partly because habits die hard.

I do use 5W-30
