In an 02 with the stock equipment removed, and in my garage, there is a lot more room to run piping from the front splashguard.

If you find a way to run a pipe from the scoop I'd like to see what kind of gains you get along with air temps at the TB or MAF. I'll keep going the way I am with robsae's approach, I found what I'm looking for down the HVAC isle but it has a BIG opening, and when I get to the box I'll share what I come up with.
No, I doubt there's much difference if any between a 2K/2K1 and a 2K2 when it comes to the air scoop arrangement. And yes, it does look like the hood blocks the air opening. But if it did, the car wouldn't run, right?

I really think it's something of an optical illusion. I don't think the hood "blocks" the opening at all. Granted you can't see the opening when the hood is closed, but there's plenty of room between the front of the scoop opening when the hood is closed to allow air to get to the intake. And one advantage of this arrangement is that it's practically impossible for foreign matter to enter the intake and clog the filter. The only way to prevent that with an open air intake is to put a screen over it. But I believe that's what you said you planned to do.

Carry on, maximaman777.

Neal, I sell you a slightly used one for $15.00. I had it on for about 1000 miles and bought a different one.

Thanks anyway, I'm going to be just buying a new one every year/12,000. I figure 35 bucks a year vs. MAF sensor failure is worth it. Also, with the cleaning kit not being free i can subtract that cost too. Maybe while I'm at it I should buy a name brand exhaust setup right Kev? :-)

I'm not mixing you up. I am POSITIVE you are two sides of the same person. Or perhaps it's because Me, Myself, & Irene was on this morning and I haven't gotten much sleep. Wouldn't it be great if repair shops opened at noon and you could pick up your ride @ 10pm???
