That is the ambient air temperature sensor for the AC (auto AC). That guy determines how warm it is outside and feeds that info to the AC brain, as do several others sensors in the car in an attempt to adjust the AC level. Also, the air temperature sensor for the auto-dim mirror is mounted in the same location, which that sensor could be for the mirror if you do not have the auto AC unit. I have two sensors in that same location, for example, since I have auto AC and an auto-dim mirror with the temperature display.

I just replaced my ambient air temperature sensor, as you have pictured, due to some weird activity of the AC.

I disagree, I believe it is the light sensor for lightspeed

I disagree as well, I think it is an electronic whistle to warn deer that you're coming in at mach 1 (come to think of it... the whistle sound would be behind you then, wouldn't it?)...uuhh.. Nevermind.

Will you even need an auto dimming mirror? You'll be outracing the glare!

Why don't you unplug it and see what doesn't happen?

You can't go the speed of light. But you can get close, and your HIDs will come on.

Yes.

If you can handle the math, go take a modern/quantum physics course that discusses relativity.

Really weird **** happens...
