A section of town, stretch of road, hidden accessway to the road, etc....anything where the apparent primary use is for cops to hide and give out tickets.

And speed traps usually involve a quick change in the posted speed limit, let's say from 50 down to 25 as you enter a small town where the local cop is just waiting for you.

it....

in terms of public roads:

is a arbitrarily marked section of defined distance for use in determining whether you are speeding. The cops can determine what your average speed is by dividing the distance by the time it takes you to cover that distance. If your average speed exceeds the posted speed limit then you may be nabbed.

in california, they are illegal. it's in the cali vehicle penal code.

in terms of racing/drag strip:

it is used to determine your speed when you hit quartermile mark.

I've got this feeling the guy was talking about "Trap Speed" and just mixed the two up. We don't exactly have a lot of threads on the board talking about "Speed Traps."

Trap Speed = The speed you are travelling at the moment you pass the 1/4 mile mark in a drag race. At a track, they will record and report your Trap Speed to you. For example, you may have run a 1/4 mile in 14.3 seconds @ 98 mph.

WOW! big difference. trap speed is ur speed that u get to at the end of the 1/4 mile. mine is 97mph. that means that in a 1/4 mile i can get up to 97mph.
