How would a 2K2 6spd fare against an E34 M5?

I'm curious to know how the new Maxima 6spds would face off against he previous gen E34 ('91-94) BMW M5s. You know, the one that was in the movie "Ronin". I think the stock for stock 1/4 mile and 0-60 times are similar, but I'm not sure.

What are the stats, (weight, HP, # gears, 0-60, 1/4 mile on them)? Don't even think of trying the new M5, leave them to 911 TT owners

look up the specs for an M5 of the years mentioned...for instance 1993:

depending on where you look...0-60 6.2 sec, 1/4 14.6.

Those were running a 310 hp six and weighed over 3800 lbs.

It's the newer ones to fear.

My favorite phrase,
An M5 will BLOW THE DOORS off any Maxima. Unless someone out there has a 12 second Maxima.

Uh, how about we ALL reread the original post....

we are NOT talking about recent M5's.

Given the data for the one he specifically is referring to, yes he stands a reasonable chance.

I would say with the M5's RWD and the Max's FWD, launch will be critical.

Resident BMW expert (moi) says 'depends'

If it's a 91 or 92 M5 it's fair game in the quarter..3.6 liters, 310 hp, about 3800 lbs. Rolling start at 40-50 or above it could be interesting
If it's a 93 (rare in the US, only about 200 imported) it will be close....same weight but 3.8 liters at 340 hp stock -and these thinks are pretty easily modded. For instance, just swapping the exhaust cam timing gear for the Euro version gear (less exhaust overlap for less dilution of incoming intake charge) nets about 22 hp..with that you're now in the 360 hp range.

E34 M5 is to me the loveliest of all mid-size Bimmers...God musta designed that M5 straight-six

You are half right. The chase scene at the end involved an older M5 and a Peugeot 405. The Audi S8 got trashed toward the middle of the movie when it crashed into the cafe.

Yeah it will be a close race I saw a above mentioned model M5 hit a 14.1 So it will be close but I think it will still own the MAX in the twisties..
