Security key

Okay, my AE key is supposed to have some sort of chip inside it that corresponds to "something" behind the ignition switch, correct? And that "something" needs to sense the chip in the key to start the car, correct? Then why can I still start my car with the valet key without the chip?

the valet key has the chip, i mean why would they call it a valet key... how would a valet park your car if he can't drive it? the valet key just can't open the trunk and whatnot after you lock them with the normal key.

My valet key has a chip. Does your valet key have a small blue rectagle where the plastic meets the metal?

The chip is behind that.

(If you're still not convinced, get a key made at a hardware store for the car. Hopefully, the car won't start... )

And I just noticed that my valet key isn't a AE key... Couldn't they cut the valet key on a AE blank, or is the transponder different? (Or could it be that Nissan didn't want you to mix 'em up?)

They don't want you to mix them up. My valet key is burgundy head, and the regular ones are black head.

No, it doesn't. Hence, my skepticism.

I asked the same question about the "why would they call it a valet key?" But, nevertheless, it sure doesn't LOOK like it has a chip in it.

whatever you do DON'T test the key during rush hour traffic!!!

I was sitting in traffic on my way to the dealer when I remembered that I had the valet key. So I took the black key out of the ignition (which has the house keys attatched to it) and put the brown valet key in the ignition. The car turned over once then promply cut the F&*K off. SO there I was in rush hour traffic in a BRAND F$*KING NEW $25,000 car that would not cut back on...I was ****ed I was embarrassed and I was ****ed once again. So I called nissan and told them to come and get thier blankty blank blank blank blank car cause i was calling the bank to have the payment cancelled

after ten minutes of trying to figure out what OTHER car I SHOULD have been driving..... I tried the black key again.....and she cranked right up

drove to nissan cussed them out three times. got a free tank of gas and some car washes out of it

dam i have some wierd car stories

did I mention that I still have and LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE my maxima

make sure you get that key programed....better to be safe than sitting in traffic

Hmm.. Interesting. I've driven around for miles just using the Valet key and not once did i have a problem of the car shutting off.

The "valet" key is supposed to keep those punks that park your car, out of your personal stuff (in conjunction with the trunk lockout switch ) it works all but the glove box and trunk. Too bad is doesn't lock the car out of anything higher than second gear (becuase you know they all burn rubber in your ride!)
