NGK spark plug wires

A 240SX owner at the Austin meet was suggesting that I upgrade my spark plug wires to NGKs. They're colorful to dress up the engine bay, as well as providing better spark transfer than the stock wires. The problem is, when we opened the hood, he couldn't easily locate the spark wires. The plugs are under the valve cover, and there are wires running to them. I'm guessing those are the spark wires. So my real question is, why hasn't anyone else changed the wires?

I think its because that our coils are built into the wire = $$$$...But I could be wrong.

because...

maybe you can't change the direct injection coil cables that go to the spark plug on 2k2's... there may be some aftermarket wires but search and see what you come up with.

if i'm wrong, please do correct me.

But I have the 2K... shouldn't be any difference though, right?

OT- But is it a good idea to upgrade spark plugs? At how many miles do you usually change them?

Get your OT-crap out of my thread!! We're talking about spark wires here, no talk about plugs allowed. Check the other thread about the plugs

Punk.

LOL! Spark plug wires!? Dude you have direct coil on plug ignition system. Think about that for a minute.

Actually his question is the more valid of the two. hehe

I'm just messing with him, me and asu174 go waaay back.

Well, that clears things up. Since it's direct coil on plug ignition, you don't need wires to get the spark from the plug to the coil... ahhh sooooo.

It'd still be cool to be able to upgrade to the cool colored wires. One more mod we can't use...

Yup. Since the coil is right over the plug, you only need a low voltage signal to activate the coil. With single coil systems, the coil is charged, then the high voltage must go from the coil, though the spark plug wires and then finally to the plug itself. With 4 cylinders it's okay becuase the single coil can re-engerize itself. But with V8s, it's asking alot of the single coil to re-energize itself so many times(ie.. V8 and 7,000 rpm). That's why you see those big fuelie v8 dragsters w/ TWO coils.

You probably meant, get the spark from the coil to the plug. Spark plug is just a plug and unless you get an electrical current through the dang thing it would be useless without the direct coil....

You? Tanman? Upgrade ignition wires? You had better recycle the old ones and use the rubber to make shoes for kids in Somalia....

Hippie loser.

asu174 I have asked and asked about spark plugs with not much input. I am also looking into getting the upgrade made by HKS, but was told because we have a distributerless ignition the gains from an aftermarket ignition system is not very noticable. As far as changing plugs the NGK's should be adequate. This is what I have been told by users of the HKS upgrade.

honestly NO. it get u approx 4hp with a cost of about $600. which sure doesnt seem like a good deal. not there might be coils out there which we can replace ours with which put out more volts, and in terms more hp. but havent heard of any which makes it for the max, but im sure its cheaper then the HKS unit at 6 bills, but thats if some1 makes it for the max.

You can't find the spark plug wires because you don't have any. You have a vastly superior system that has a separate coil for each spark plug built into the spark plug boot. No distributor either. You can have pity on the poor 240sx owner for his antiquated system.

It took you a full 24 hours to come up with that? Where the hell were you? Were you out stopping oil tankers and seal poachers with your buddies from Greenpeace?

Nah, I didn't check the boards last night (out seeing Minority Report), and it was busy this morning at work so I didn't get a chance to flame you right away.

Besides, the question had been answered, so I didn't really care to read any more from this thread. You're lucky I checked it .
